Charlie

Charlie became part of our lives in June 2016 when we fostered him. He was our first and last foster. He soon became the epicenter of our family and our lives and made us Foster failures. His amazing personality won over our hearts. On our first visit to the dog park he sat on the bench along with all the humans and watched the dogs. He would sometimes go hang out with other people just to be sociable. He was not much of a water dog preferring to stay on dry land. He loved car rides and Fairchild park was one of his favorite explorations. He loved sunbathing on his back in the garden and snuggling on the sofa. In 2019 he developed heart tumors and passed away in September. We still miss him every day and we were heartbroken for a long time but we think we can now look again for another Charlie

Lucy

I will forever be grateful to LRROF for saving my Lucy and bringing us together. Lucy was 9 months old when I adopted her from her loving foster family in Tarpon Springs. LRROF had already treated a lot of Lucy’s medical issues and took great care of her! As soon as we met her we knew she was meant for us. Initially, she was timid but had the sweetest and most eager to please personality. She quickly warmed up to her new life and that’s when our adventures started. She loved everyone she met and with the exception of eating, her favorite place to be was by my side. Lucy passed away at the unfair age of 7 from Lymphoma. Her companionship is something that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Carl

After we rescued our first lab from a humane society we knew we had to get him a friend. After having such a wonderful experience rescuing one, we wanted to rescue another! We found Carl through LRROF and couldn’t be happier. Carl is the sweetest and friendliest dog. He is so non confrontational even with other dogs. And boy does he LOVE other dogs. He’s so happy to met new people, met their dogs and he plays and plays and plays. We take them to the beach often and they both of course love the water. We really lucked out with two good boys. We had our trepidations before we brought him home but it has been the best decision for our household! LRROF did such a good matching us with a dog that would blend well with our family and what we were looking for. I recommend to everyone if they are looking for a dog, they need to rescue! And rescue with a good cause. Thank you all so much!

Whiskey

We had to put our Duke down at the young age of 11 due to cancer. We were looking on LRRofF for a few weeks looking for another chocolate lab. Not a puppy or a senior dog, but an adult dog. We found Whiskey who is a chocolate lab. 5 1/2 years young. We called Merrianne and she walked us through the process not letting us have any expectations, but what could happen. Which we appreciated that we were not misled. We filled out all the necessary paperwork. Then we did a virtual tour of our home to make sure it was safe for Whiskey. Some hard professional questions as we toured the property. Somethings that we would not have thought of. She then set us up with Robin, the foster mom to set a time and date to meet with her and Whiskey. Yesterday, we met them both and were we surprised what a handsome dude Whiskey was and is! And talk about polite showing himself off. LOL Well, lucky us, Robin approved us and after about an hour or so. We were on our way home with Whiskey in the back seat with my daughter. It's been about a day now and he is starting to feel comfortable in our, his home! He loves to be with someone all day and we will not leave him at home alone. I can't say enough good about Robin and Merrianne and what they do. It takes a special person to do this. Thanks to the both of you!!! Whiskey, Joline, Cindy & Walt

Buddie

In April of this past year we lost our boy, Vinnie, after 15 long wonderful years of loving him. Originally, we had no intention of getting another lab as fast as we did, but when we came across Buddie's (Buddy) beautiful face, I just could not move past his story. Buddie was used as a breading dog and housed in outdoor crate in the Florida heat for 4 years. When he was rescued by the group and fostered by his amazing foster parent's he had never been inside a house, played with toys, or had the love that he deserved. We contacted the rescue and applied to adopt this precious boy, and Kerry and Jason were kind enough to keep him an extra few days until we returned from vacation and could pick up our new baby. Buddie has adjusted to the changes so well over the past six months, he now has many lazy days resting on the fluffy couches and chairs instead of a hard crate, playing with toys, long walks and he LOVES to travel with us...absolutely loves car rides and just wants to be with his people. He is a lover of everyone, other animals, and does not have a mean bone in his body. We realized that Buddie saved us from the hole in our hearts after losing Vinnie as much as we saved him, he is appreciative of every kiss and cuddle and so are we.

Max

I adopted Max while working at Camp Bow Wow during 2020. At the time I wasn’t sure if I wanted another dog due to the fact that I had another older dog at home slowly declining however, I grown to love black labs and Max could not of came to me at a better timing. It was almost like destiny. During his time fostering at Camp Bow Wow him and I grew a very strong bond. Whenever I was in the building max would do anything just to be my side from barking and whining through the fence, or even jumping the gates to get to me. At that point I knew this dog picked me. He had some extreme anxiety issues in the beginning but I committed and we worked through his behavior. He can still be a little anxious sometimes but he has settled down a lot. Unfortunately my older dog passed away 6 months after the adoption of Max and max stayed by my side through the whole grieving process. It has been 2 years now since I have brought him home and I couldn’t of asked for a better dog. I truly don’t know where I would be today without my max. He is my soul dog and my entire world. We now enjoy long hikes, playing fetch in the back yard, going to different dog parks, and sometimes we will even go swimming. Thank you so much Lab Rescue for bringing my max into my life. My whole world has been changed thanks to this wonderful dog.

Maxwell

In 2009, after making the decision to adopt a Lab, then Clearwater Labrador Rescue sent Sheri Descarreaux-Kulow to my apartment to be evaluated. I was approved and I asked what's next. She sent me to their website and said start meeting your future furry friend. And to let the dog choose you, you'll know when the time is right. I went through all of the available rescues, but didn't get that response. She said don't rush it. You'll know. She sent me to the neighboring rescue to Vicky Bowles Walls-Drown and after looking over dogs there I noticed at the very bottom of the page Sweet William (an odd name I never heard for a pup). It looked really thin. As an impulse, I drove an hour and a half to foster Vanessa's (can't remember last name) house in the pouring rain it but stopped as I arrived. I walked up the wet driveway and only got out a single "Hello" as she stood in her doorway at the house. Out walks this little boy slowly looking at me while approaching. I stop. He continues to walk up, wraps his body around my feet and lays down. Inside my head fireworks are going off, He chose me! Vanessa informs me they do not know where he came from as he was found wandering dehydrated alongside a road. And he had a barking issue and was sometimes known to bark 8 hours non-stop and had to be muzzled a lot. I'm up for the challenge, let's do this! After renaming him Maxwell (responded very excitedly towards it being Vanessa's black Labs name he lived with), and late...

Cocoa

I am a foster for LRROF and I was contacted about a 9 year old chocolate lab named Cocoa whose owner had passed away. I immediately said yes that I would foster her and within about 5 minutes of meeting this dog I knew she was going to be adopted BY ME! She is the sweetest dog & I love her & she will be with me until she takes her last breath.
-- Tom Corsi (12/19/2022)

Mandy

We wanted a senior who was good with other dogs. We sure got it! Mandy is always happy and sweet. She sees all dogs and people as new friends. What a sweetheart! How did we get so lucky? Mandy is our 2nd dog from Lab Rescue of Florida. We couldn’t be more pleased. Thank you Lab Rescue!

Shadow

Shadow joined our family in July of 2007. We met him at an adoption event a the Cocoa Riverfront Park while eating at one of our favorite places Cara Mia's. Clyde, our previous lab, had passed about a year and a half earlier and while we were thinking about getting another dog we weren't quite ready. I was walking through the event when he caught my eye and he instantly connected with me and the kids. My wife was still in the restaurant when I let her know there was someone she had to meet. She wasn't keen on a new dog yet but when Shadow put his head down on her leg and looked into her soul she was done! The adoption process was great and after filling out an application and a home visit..... he was a part of the family! Shadow was a great dog. I know most owners say that about their dogs but Shadow truly was a GREAT dog! He grew up with our family and we have so many great memories. Unfortunately he left us in October of 2021 at 14.5 years old which isn't bad for a 95 pound lab. We are all going to miss the greetings, begging for a meal, the long walks around the neighborhood that seemed to get slower and slower, but most of all I am going to miss his companionship that only he could provide! Although he is gone I am so happy that we crossed paths with LRROF that hot July day! RIP Buddy!

Millie

We wanted a lab but waited to finish graduate school so we had time for her. We got Millie at 6months old, already house trained but hated her crate. She had a lot of anxiety, we think from being moved from home to home. She needed daily walks and runs to manage her anxiety but we were young and together could keep up with her. As she matured she became so sweet and gentle with our daughter as she joined our family. Millie was my first baby, she passed earlier this year at age 14. She was my husband’s best friend. We are now looking to bring another pup into our lives.❤️

Duke

On November 3, 2018, we agreed to foster Duke for Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida. Between Lab and Golden rescues, we had fostered approximately 35 dogs over the years prior to Duke’s arrival. Our previous Lab, Shadow, was a foster through LRRoF whom we eventually adopted due to his behavioral issues making him a safety risk according to Rescue’s dog behaviorists. Shadow had died three years prior and we were ready to seriously considering adopting again. We are Duke’s (at least) third home. He was picked up by animal control in Indiana, and because he was microchipped, we learned his birthdate and that his real name IS Duke. The microchip company told us that they had spent months trying to contact the registered owners, but received no reply. At 5 years old, Duke was adopted from the Indiana shelter by Mary, who had owned him for about one year and brought him to her winter home in southwest Florida. He proved to be too much for her to handle. His energy level was off the charts and he was too strong for her to safely walk, his prey drive having ultimately landed Mary on the ground several times. Mary took excellent care of him and tried her very best, providing consistent training, veterinary care, socialization and mental stimulation. Mary decided to relinquish him to LRRoF and brought him to our home in Ft. Myers that afternoon. Once I saw him out of her car, I literally cried. I knew this was the dog I wanted to keep. Duke’s initial sell...

Bella

Bob and I lost my so loved Doberman Reesi in June of 2019 and we were heartbroken. So much so we have waited to get a new dog. I had never been more than 2 days without a dog before - in my whole life. It has been a lonely year and a half. We decided to wait until our permanent move to Florida was complete before considering a new dog. After a failed visit to a shelter, I decided to register with LRROF. We wanted a younger female and found that in Bella. She was a stray that was picked up in Miami. She has significant health issues (a non functional liver) and my Reesi had liver issues too so I think our match was made in heaven. We understood how to care for a sweet special needs girl with liver issues, medications and a special diet. Since adopting her less than a week ago, she has adapted to life with us SO quickly. She is unbelievably well behaved, rides perfectly in a car, waits patiently for her meals, loves to play ball and run on the beach and walks well on a leash. She is already learning stay and other commands. All she wants to do is be with us which is exactly what we wanted. We are SO happy with our sweet Bella.

Bruce Almighty

Two years and 9 months just wasn't long enough ..... Bruce Almighty came to be part of our family in February of 2018 at the age of 10. He came from Georgia and was abused and afraid. He did everything he could to be invisible. No barking, no interaction, no tail wagging and wouldn't eat/drink if you were watching. He wouldn't make eye contact didn't want to be loved but we could see that something deep inside was craving all of the above. With patience and love Bruce Almighty mirrored his name! He became proud, part of a family, and was the most loved boy ever! He was amazing in every way, beyond intelligent and the highlight of our every day. Thank you LRROF for allowing us to have had this special boy who had so very much to offer. Today, 12/04/2020, our beloved Bruce crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Taken from us in such a short time but he knew more love in the short time he was with us, then in his entire life and he knew it, right up to the end. Rest easy My Love, and know that you will forever be in our hearts and in our thoughts. There will NEVER be another like you.

Barkley

I had been trying to convince my husband to get a dog for 20 years. Since he has never had a dog, he researched breeds to figure out which would be a great match for a first time dog owner. Labs appeared to have the best disposition, temperament, family-oriented and loving. We began our search! After being disappointed continuously through a local organization, I found LRRoF and immediately sent in an application. I was paired with Mary Hunt, a phenomenal volunteer who interviewed me extensively and kept in touch with me throughout the weeks of our search. Mary called to tell me about Malibu, a black lab in foster care with a playful and quirky personality. After contacting the foster mom, we made the 3 hour drive to meet Malibu. I fell in love immediately, and my husband followed that sentiment on the drive home. We renamed him Barkley as his adorable weirdness fit the name more so and well...he just looks like a Barkley. Barkley entered our new home and hearts the day before we officially quarantined for COVID-19. Perfect timing as we all acclimated together, and became an instant family. Not only has Barkley become an important family member, but he has his own Instagram followers! We couldn't have rescued a more loving dog or worked with a better organization. My husband and I extend our gratitude to LRRoF for finding us the pet we always wanted.

Molly

Today was a celebration of life as we had to say goodbye to our very first rescue. Molly came to us six years ago and brought so much love and joy to our family. We will never forget you Molly Moo! Travel safely across the rainbow bridge and run free with no pain. We love you baby girl...

Sonny

Sonny came into our lives through the foster program. He was left in a house condemned unfit to live in. When we got him his skin was a complete mess, his eyes were full of yeast and he was terrified of being left alone ever. Sonny soon became the best friend and guardian I had ever had. Our hearts broken when he had to let him go Sept 17th, 2020. He taught me so much more than I could ever have taught him. We are so grateful for the time and love he shared with us...
-- C Peter Wallace (10/07/2020)

Echo

We lost our Shadow, a Weimaraner around the holidays at the end of 2016. Our GSP, Max was lonely and we reached out to the LRROF after looking at available dogs online. We fell in love with Echo and and added him to our family in March of 2017. When he arrived, we could tell that he never had much affection or care. He was heartworm positive, had flea treatment, teeth worn down and his fur was missing in some spots. Thanks to LRROF's help in treating the heartworm, he quickly improved and settled in. He is a happy, playful little guy who LOVES treats, head scratches and playing with toys. We are so happy to have him in our home!
-- Pam Stambaugh (10/01/2020)

Max

We adopted Dusty ( aka Flicka) in 9/19. She is great and we love her unconditionally. But she would get lonely and become restless. She was fostered with 3 other dogs. So we applied in March 2020 to adopt a companion for Dusty. We were contacted by Melissa Murray July 20. She said she has a year old male she was fostering and might be a good fit for Dusty. On July 23, we went to Melissa's and introduced Dusty to Max. They hit it off right away.So home he came. He has been a challenge as he was thin at 44 pounds and extremely food driven. Counter surfing and eating the cats food were challenging but he is learning quickly. They play together until they lie down exhausted and sleep. House breaking is ongoing as he did not show need to go out but has gotten the idea that he needs to let us know.He is getting better and daily trips to dog park where he plays hard help.Although we had hoped to adopt an older adult , we are happy with Max as he continues to grow and mature into a great loving companion for Dusty and us.

Bear

Our two boys just switched elementary schools and were feeling scared and uneasy. We told them we would get a puppy for them to love and play with after school each day if they were brave. Kim from lab rescue came to our house to do a family visit. She brought her beautiful dog and could tell we were a family that was ready to love a new furry family member. We were fortunate to find a rescue momma that had a big litter! We got to see pictures of our Bear when he was first born. The foster family was awesome. We brought Bear home when he was only 7wks old. He was a huge fluff ball. Bear went swimming with the boys, bear went boating, rafting and canoeing with our family. Our boys are now in college and Bear recently passed peacefully at home at the age of 13 1/2 yrs old. I am sobbing as I write this..."How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." A.A. Milne/Winnie the Pooh.

Brady and Brody

Our beloved chocolate lab, Jessie, passed unexpected in 2012. She was only 8 years old. Our hearts were broken. We immediately began the search for a new fur baby because the house was too quiet. We looked to LRROF. Everyday we looked on the web site to see if there was a potential match for us. We have four daughters so we were looking for a dog with a child history. After about a month of searching we found a potential match 3 hours away. Two 3 year old yellow labs, brothers, and they were not to be separated. After considering taking both, we packed up the family and drove to Jacksonville to meet them. After spending some time with them and taking them for a ride in the car to make sure they were good travelers (because we take road trips) we made the decision to bring them home. All 8 of us piled into our Sequoia and made the 3 hour drive back home to begin our lives together. When the LRROF representative came by for a home visit following their placement, she made a comment that I will never forget. She said, "Aww, the boys got a family for Christmas!" That stays with me to this day, over 7 years later. Really, we got the best gift that Christmas-two wonderful additions to our family.

GAVIN

In 2011, we adopted two labs from you that were in the same foster home, Jack & Callie Mae. Unfortunately, we lost Jack last November due to a brain tumor. Callie Mae was so despondent and we missed Jack so much, we wanted a good partner for Callie Mae. We brought Gavin home on a trial basis because Callie does not get along with some other dogs. They bonded immediately and Callie is a different dog today. She is at least 10 and Gavin is about 6 now. Both are doing great and they are really close. We still miss Jack as he was a wonderful dog, especially for me to take walking, but Gavin is also a good walker. In many ways, Gavin is much like Jack was. Gavin was so mistreated in the past, underweight and had (or may still have heart worm) but has gained weight to 60 pounds, and is so energetic now. We have agreed per LRROF to wait until December to test him again for the heartworm, but he has tested positive twice by our vet this past year. Our vet followed up with more treatment after we got him, but we have to wait and see this next test. He was still receiving his treatment when we took him home and we took him to NPR for his last treatment. They both sleep on the beds at night and have day beds close to us in the family room. We have a fenced yard, so they are out often.

Stardust

We went to Crooked Thumb Brewery, intending to meet some of the people that support LRROF. We met some wonderful people and the lovely labs. The area co-ordinator arrived and said she had a dog that met our criteria ( we have 5 rescue cats) locally. So we drove the 1.5 hours to Angel and Brian's home. We met them, unbelievably nice people and then Flicka. She is a lab/greyhound mix, 9 months old. Instant love. We arranged to pick her up the next Saturday as she did not fit our CORVETTE. Well, it's been about 3 weeks. Dusty is so smart and full of energy. She gets along with the cats. A few "oops" moments as we learned her abilities. She trains real easy, loves to retrieve and water is next test. Thank you LRROF
-- Gerald and Pat Wolf (10/11/2019)

Ella

We had such a wonderful experience with LRROF. We adopted our sweet Ella 3 weeks ago, and it is like she has been a part of our family forever. What a perfect match! Our adoption liaisons Blaine and Jeanene were wonderful, and Ella's foster, Kim, was fantastic!! We are so grateful to your organization for rescuing Ella and allowing us to be her new family!! God bless your organization! Keep up the great work!
-- Susan Lowell (09/17/2019)

Dixie

This is my second time adopting through LRROF. I adopted Dixie from Larry Meenie. I was looking for a sweet girl who was good with cats. Dixie did not disappoint. She really loves her kitties and gives them a bath daily. When I saw her profile on LRRoF.....I knew she was the one I needed. Her name is very special to me cause that was my mother's name who I had lost years earlier to cancer. Dixie is very much loved. She is also extremely spoiled. She loves going to a local park and playing on the beach. She also loves riding with the top down and her hot pink glasses on!! Dixie recently showed how much she loved me by saving our lives. We were walking around the backyard and she was at my side and she stopped. Her hair started to rise and I looked down to see a 4 1/2 foot Rattlesnake coiled. We backed up slowly and got my husband to kill it. She could have heard it or sensed it!! I guess somehow my mother was looking out for me!!
-- Karen Mummey (08/12/2019)

Phoebe

I have a heart for rescue animals and volunteered with and fostered dogs in the past, but never found myself in the position to adopt until recently. I was drawn to Phoebe’s (formerly Missy) description; she sounded like the perfect fit for me. In the days leading up to meeting her I was so excited and would look at her pictures over and over. Our meeting sealed the deal that she was the one for me. Since I brought her home, she has been the most loving companion and she makes me laugh every day. She had a rough start in life and came to LRROF after spending the first five years of her life in a horrific hoarding situation; before she was rescued she had never been outside, never felt the sun on her face or the grass on her paws, never knew a loving touch. Her incomparable foster mom Sherri rehabilitated her and showed her how to be a dog and I am forever grateful for her, and for LRROF, for saving my girl. I often ask Phoebe “what did I ever do to get a girl as good as you?” and I mean it - I feel endlessly lucky to have her. She inspires me everyday with zest for life and her happy spirit. I could never in a million years fully articulate what she means to me.
-- Sarah Chrisien (07/06/2019)

Brock

We got this dog 8 1/2 years ago He was the best. My son named him Brock he loved the water and riding on the Waverunner. We are sad to say he passed away July 2 2019. He is sorely missed by everyone. Just wanted to thank you for such a great Animal he was our 3 rd kid. Keep doing what you’re doing Thank you.
-- John Ellison (07/04/2019)

Brownie

I got Brownie 4 months ago and it is one of the best decisions that I have ever made. He is such a wonderful dog. Brownie is a 7-year-old male chocolate lab. When I got him, he could barely walk of any stairs. He was on pain medication for the arthritis in his two back legs, which he developed after years of neglect. Now not only is he off of his pain medication he is able to go up an entire flight of stairs with ease. He had a little limp when I got him to and now that we have worked to build up his back leg muscles, it is completely gone! Brownie is truly living his best life. As anyone who has met him knows he loves to cuddle and now he gets to sleep in bed with his mom every night and snuggle on the couch with her while she studies. He loves it! Brownie is doing amazing and he has brought so much joy in to my life! I love being his mom =)

Honey

After our dog, Roxy, passed away in October we have been looking for a new dog to join our family. We knew that Honey was the one the instant we saw her on the website. Our first meeting with her we all fell in love with her and she has turned out to be the most incredible, lovable, intelligent, sweet dog . Pat at LRROF was so incredible throughout the adoption process. We haven’t even had her two weeks yet and we are completely in love with her and she with us. People tell us that we have such great luck with dogs and that our dogs hit the jackpot when they come to our home but honestly we hit the jackpot with Honey. She is an 8-9 month old Lab mix and she has brought such life into our home, to all of us and especially to our old dog Buddy.
-- Diane Wohlfiel (03/25/2019)

Lilly

Just over one year ago today, on February 12, 2018, we met and adopted our baby girl, Lilly. It’s not an understatement to say this was one of the best decisions we ever made and we are forever grateful to the LRRoF for saving her and allowing us to give her a furever home. Lilly is absolutely thriving. She loves cuddles, giving all the kisses, running super fast, swimming, car rides and walks. She lives for treats and is always at the door to greet you, butt wiggling out of control. Everyone she meets adores her. She has seen snow (and are all of it), the ocean, and traveled through eleven states! We are looking forward to a long, happy, crazy life together. Thank you for everything you did for her, and everything you continue to do for all the other wonderful dogs out there waiting to meet their families. Love, Chelsea, Matt, & Lilly
-- Chelsea Cardosa (03/11/2019)

Zeus

Zeus was lucky enough to be intercepted by the LRRoF before going to a shelter and went straight to a great foster home. Two short meetings later, we were in love with each other! He's so sweet and funny, and his confidence builds every day. In no time at all, he went from being unsure of himself and not knowing how to even play to my funny, happy, confident, retrieving sidekick. I can't say enough great things about LRRoF's process and could never thank them adequately for bringing Zeus to me. So, Zeus and I have joined the ranks of volunteers so that other sweet labs find loving furever homes as well.

Dawson

We rescued a yellow female Labrador in 2008 but sadly had to have her put to sleep in 2013. We were all devastated and were unable to consider adopting another dog until a few months ago. We had been checking the LRRoF site, and filled out an application. The area director contacted us and we were approved! We knew it might be a bit of a wait but it wasn't too long before we got a call about black male Labrador in need of a home. We visited him a couple of times at his wonderful foster mom's home and all of us agreed he was the one!. He's been with us almost a month now, is still adjusting but he's quite lovely; we all love him to pieces!!
-- Steve Westcott (11/17/2018)

Neo

My husband and I adopted Neo from lab rescue when he was a puppy. We went through the process and happily got the call not to long afterwards. Neo was my wonderful companion for almost 13 years.and I was his companion every moment for his last month with us. He recently died from an adrenal rumor. I am heart broken and miss him terribly. I highly reccomend Lab rescue. We have adopted before, but adopting with this group was a wonderful experience !
-- Annette duPlessis (09/25/2018)

Hector

Hector came to LRRoF as an abuse case that ended up in the court system. Consequently he spent a considerable time in a shelter that had little money. He had been dragged behind his owner's vehicle and had multiple skin injuries and he was heavy heartworm positive. I am a volunteer with LRRof and had recently lost two of my adopted chocolate boys within 6 months of each other when I saw Hector on the web site. I went to visit him a couple of times at his foster's home and she very generously agreed to let me adopt him. Hector is a very laid back dog and loves the couch, however he goes to class once a week where he does some agility and obedience, he earned is CGC (Canine Good Citizen) from AKC.
-- Liz Masters (09/21/2018)

Reggie

After losing our LRRoF alum, Barney, we adopted FYNN from a foster Mom, Clair Kennedy in Port Saint Lucie December 17,2016. FYNN was the perfect boy but we thought he needed a fur friend. We got a call from Lab Rescue that they needed a foster for a stray that was taken in in Englewood with some serious health issues. His name was Rebel and we picked him up 7/28/17. He was diagnosed with hip dysplaysia but also had an infection of the spine. After 7 weeks of excellent medical care through LRRoF veterinarians and specialist, we adopted Rebel, who became Reggie. Reggie is now enjoying his life with FYNN, my husband and me. We are retired and spend all of our time with these 2 boys. They have come a long way from walking the streets of Miami and Englewood.

Finn

Dexter was yet another of LRROF's miracle rescues. Found in Plant City with multiple gunshot wounds to the face, he was in critical condition when Lab Rescue first took him into emergency care. Since then, he has healed beautifully (minus a few teeth), and has the BEST disposition we could ever ask for. Now, Finn, at one year old, loves to romp around with other dogs and adores kids and his toys. Once he's tired out from a long walk, he spends his time cuddled up on the couch with us. We love him, and are so grateful for the life Lab Rescue and its community gave him.

Riley

Riley came to me in a time of grief after just losing my husband. I believe he was sent to me from him as he is exactly the dog we had both wanted to love and enjoy.. He has brought hrs of laughter to me and fun times. He is an excellent dog and I cannot thank the rescue people enough for bringing him to me.

Bennie

We saw Bennie on your website and filled out the application and then called and was told he would be at an outing and we went to meet him. Instant Love. Bennie is such a big personality and you definitely know he is around. He is around 75 pounds now and he is 1yr and 4months old now. He loves to talk and argue.

Baxter

Baxter had been to two differenct shelters and two different homes before he reached mine. He was a handful at first however with three different trainers he became the dog that everyone loved and adored. He became best friends with my cat, he loved going to the beach and playing with other dogs and loved to sun bathe. Unfortunatley he got diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier last year and was laid to rest right before his eleventh birthday on January 18 2018. Thank you Labrador Rescue for allowing me to rescue this beautiful boy.

Baxter

Baxter was adopted in 2007. He had been to 2 different shelters and 2 different home by the time he got to mine. He was a handful at first and over the first couple years, 3 different trainers he eventually became comfortable at being a dog. He loved going to the the beach, laying out in sun, going for walks and being fed "gourmet food." He became best friends with my cat and my young neice. He was the the absolute best dog. Baxter ended up with prostate cancer later this last year and was laid to rest just before his eleventh birthday on January 18 2018. Thank you Labrador Rescue for allowing me to rescue this beautiful boy. He will forever be missed.

Samson

We've had Samson now for about 2 years now and he's really gotten used to us and he's gotten really calm. He loves his milk bones and his chew toys. He loves grandpa probably the most and he loves rides to the park in the truck. He loves going with us around to different communities to see Christmas lights. After all, he's a great dog and we're looking foreword to more great memories with him!

Shayna

I am a disabled Vietnam Vet. I have had pooches in my family life since 1970. With wife 40 yrs. when we adopted Shayns she had been abandoned by hunters on the side of the road with a pup. I got the call Super Bowl Sunday 2/5/17. Drove the 2.5 hrs to meet her. Instant love. In 30 seconds I had a new best friend, knew I was not leaving without her. A former army k-9 handler started training her. She had rcvd good early training by hunters. First 2 weeks she was home could not leave her side even while eating. After 3/4 yr add training she became a registered national service dog. Working with kids in schools and libraries. Her primary training is with vets with PTSD. Trainer said she wasn't that smart. He said she was brilliant. He had a vet client who was wheelchair bound and looking for a trained service dog. He had a check for $25,000. If I would sell my little girl. Told him thanks but 25 million wouldn't do it either. I did not rescue her, Shayna rescued me. If I'm in any distress she jumps up on top of me and hugs me with her paws. She keeps me alive.???

Nina

Nina came to me in 2003 through the LROF, a spunky big yellow girl. This is long before I met my wife and started a family, so Nina was my first true love. She spent 13 good years with us before moving on to the 'perfect life' in dog heaven. Nina died when our daughter was only 2, but she still talks about her 'Nina Dog' to us. Nina endured two military deployments staying with family, a few hurricanes and a ton of adventure. She was an awesome dog, perfect in every way. There are so many stories to share, it could fill a book. I truly believe Nina's story could out-due that 'Marley' dog on TV ;-). Thank you for your 'mission' and what you do at LROF - we'll be looking for another dog soon, just scared we can't find one as awesome as Nina.

Mesa

I just adopted Mesa (Elsa) today and am already truly enjoying here. Pat (foster mom) was very helpful and I appreciate her taking the time to explain the adoption details to me. I am taking some time to get my new girl acclimated to her new home and life. She seems to be adapting well. I am single and lost my 17.5 year old lab mix last year. After a long healing process, rescuing a lab seemed to be the right fit and I am very glad I reached out to LRROF. I found my girl right away and am very happy she is adapting to me and my home so well!

Daisy

We would like to thank Lab Rescue for helping us find our sweet girl Daisy (AKA Frida). We worked with Trish, our adoption counselor, for a while to find the right lab for our family. We searched near and far and were determined to find our lab. Trish worked hard for us and we knew the right one would find us eventually. One day I received a call from Trish telling us she found our girl. We went to meet Frida and it was love at first sight. She is so beautiful, silly, and sweet. Foster mom Tandy was also such a pleasure to meet and is such a wonderful person. We can’t thank her enough for taking great care of Daisy until we found her. My husband and I couldn’t be happier and would like to thank everyone for all of their dedication and effort throughout this entire process. They have been so amazing and Lab Rescue is such a wonderful organization. Without all of you, we wouldn’t have found our sweet Daisy who fills our home with so much love.

Rocky

Rocky came from Miami after original owner could no longer properly care for him. He was surrendered to a High-kill shelter in Miami-Dade and fortunately LRROF came to his rescue within 24 hours! He was just 13 months. LRROF got him a good veterinarian, who thoroughly checked him, neutered him, and chipped him. Foster mom Samantha welcomed him to their home. There she noticed that he was suffering from Reactive Aggression and anxiety. We then adopted Rocky after been with her foster mom for about a month. Rocky had severe separation anxiety issues as well as anxiety and aggression towards other dogs while on the leash. We were living in Wellington back then and utilized behavioral services from Mindy at Lucky Dog in Jupiter. We worked hard with her for almost 3 months and made some progress, but she referred us to Dr. Lisa Radosta who medicated Rocky and has made a huge positive difference. He has been with us now for a little more than eleven months and he truly rocks!!!! We are happy to have him in our lives. He is very well adjusted to us and he is now part of our forever family!!!!

Wraith

We lost our precious lab Erica in November of 2015. In January of 2016 we adopted a lab mix from Safe Pet Rescue. She ended up needing a lot of veterinary care to get her healthy which took about 8 months. During that time, we discovered that she had separation anxiety. She is an incredibly social dog and we decided to try adopting a second dog to keep her company. We contacted Lab Rescue because we knew that you foster your dogs and we were hopeful that you could help us find a good companion for her. We were contacted quickly after our home visit with our now rascally Wraith. As you can see from the photo, they are doing just great! (He is the one in the back of the photo spooning Trinity). They get along great and he takes great care of her if we have to leave them alone. Thank you so much for pairing him with us and everything you do for all these dogs!

Chica

I had filled out an adoption application and completed a home visit when I happened upon a LRRoF event at a local mall and stopped to talk in October 2012. I met Chica and her wonderful foster parents that day, and she immediately attached herself to me. I wasn't expecting the process to happen so quickly, but we bonded, and I brought her home the next day. She has been the most wonderful, loving, energetic, destructive, and intelligent companion. She is the definition of a Velcro dog, and has travelled all over with me for many years. She loves everyone she meets, playing fetch, trying to sneak onto the furniture, and snuggling. I am so lucky to live in such a dog friendly community, as I regularly get to include her in my trips out around town. Chica immediately attached to my now husband, and she loves spending her days with him now that he works from home.

Precious

in 2005, a little angel, then the size of a tile, entered our lives and left a mark that will forever be with us. Precious Borriello, a beautiful, smart, confident, playful and loyal black lab. spoiled rotten, and she loved and appreciated every minute of it. Who knew this wonderful creature could bring so much love and happiness into our lives, our home and to all those she came in contact with. On march 11, 2017, my angel approached rainbow bridge. I cannot help but feel that the doctors caring for her made a mistake and I've tortured myself until I was sick. I need to focus on the many wonderful years that Precious blessed us with. She was a young 11. always playing with her toys, she made the house a home worth living and coming home to. she was so well-behaved and well-trained. she had some of the best habits. she loved home cooked meals, playing with her toys and being over-protective of mommy. although she was not a service dog, per se, she was my service dog. with me through thick and thin, always by my side. As I became a dialysis patient and struggled through home dialysis, there was my loyal angel, there at my side, every step of the way. she gave me strength; just knowing she was counting on my care, I was counting on her presence. she became my rock; My best friend and my ultimate companion over the last 11 years. We understood each other and we shared some of life's most enjoyable moments. I was blessed with the love and presence of the most ...

Morgan

We adopted Morgan in Aug of '05 for our then 6 year old son. Lab Rescue vetted us and our wait for the world's most perfect dog was only a few weeks. She was a well trained, owner surrender, one year old who could not have been any smarter. From day one, my husband called her "a person in a dog suit". Morgan was our only dog and truly became our surrogate second child. Sadly, Morgan passed on Jan 28, 2017. As anyone who has lost a Lab knows, the hole in our hearts is huge and seems to be irreparable. Yet we know that the 12 years with our sweet girl were truly a gift. We know that we gave her a wonderful life as a member of our family and in return, she gave us the most unconditional love anyone could every dream of. Thank you LRROF for the work that you do and for introducing us to our sweet baby girl Morgan.

Ollie

We adopted Ollie from your LRROF about a year after the death of our beloved lab Sedona. We weren't going to get another dog but, as often happens, our house got emptier each day. Ollie was a total joy. Everyone, including non-dog lovers, loved him. We're not quite sure he knew he was a lab, because he didn't want to go in our pool and really wasn't into playing fetch so he didn't seem to get the retriever part of Labrador Retriever. What he did excel at was sharing love. He brought a ton of comfort and joy to our lives as we, hopefully did to his. Sadly, several medical conditions took him from us on January 10th of this year. We say we won't be getting another dog but, of course, we will.....

Bella

Lab Rescue helped me get my girl home safely! Bella got out of my back gate when my lawn man accidently left the gate opened. We contacted her microchip company who put out the word she was missing. She is a very shy black lab that was spotted a few times but was on the run. We put up posters all over the neighborhood and searched for her driving and biking the neighborhood calling her daily. After 20 long days, she found her way to my daughter's house, six blocks from her home. She was taking my daughter's shoes outside and putting them in the bushes by the house. My daughter's roommate saw her and followed her until I got there. I started calling her and to my amazement, she came running from the side of the house. I opened my truck door and she dove into my lap. It was the best moment of my life! She is thin and has lost 6 pounds but is otherwise fine. My vet said I should buy a lottery ticket! Thank you to LRROF for you help getting Bella home safely.

Hank

Our family has had Labs for over 20 years. When my old fella, Luke, passed at 15 1/2 years, we decided that Angus, our 4 year old, was missing him. We decided that it would be a wonderful choice to bring an adult dog into our home and, even better, to provide a loving home for a rescued dog who needed one. We went onto the LRROF site and saw Luke. We took Angus to meet him after discussing our family with Lisa, the wonderful foster who had him. They hit it off immediately and began running around together. We renamed him Hank because for us there was only one Luke. He's been a part of our family for five months now and fits right in. He chases lizards with one of our cats and swims with Angus. He's a sweet boy and very silly. We love him and he returns it as only a Lab can.

Palmer

When Palmer arrived just before the holidays one year, he was a little rough around the edges. He was beaten up a bit with sores and scrapes from his life as a stray. And he was set to be put down in a few hours when you all pulled him from Broward Animal Control. He was too big, too old. But he did have the most liquid brown eyes, like two shoe buttons on a beloved stuff animal. He didn't know how to engage with people or Taler, the queen bee. He didn't know how to chase a ball - in fact was hurt if a ball was thrown in his direction; he was jumpy, and he didn't like to swim and thought those who did to be suspect. And he did not like to have his picture taken. Over the months growing into years, he found joy faux dog fighting with Taler for hours and hours, romping at the dog park, so excited on the drive in that the car would swerve with his weight as he leapt from side to side, or just lying around back to back with Taler. The paperwork that came with Palmer listed his weight as 80 lbs. He looked kind of big, but Taler is around 70 so that seemed like a good fit. You might imagine the hilarity that ensued at the vet when I insisted he weighed only 80 when the scale clearly read 117. The other note on the papers was arthritis. Palmer stayed at a healthy 117 for the rest of his life. He was the most agreeable dog I've ever known. He never once fouled the house, or bit anyone or anything. He didn't chase the chickens or neighborhood cats. He barked, tail in ...

Sadie

We contacted Lab Rescue after the loss of our beloved 13 year old yellow lab, Ally. Our assigned contact was Lisa. She met with us and explained the process and answered all of our questions. We were most impressed with the knowledge that Lab Rescue was interested in placing the right dog with your family. Lisa really listened to us and understood our family dynamic. She was and has been so helpful throughout this entire process. Now about our new family member, Sadie. We adopted Sadie in April. Her foster family brought her to us and gave us so much information on her. They were wonderful! Sadie had only been with the foster family for about a week. She came from a shelter with fleas, heart worm positive and worms. Since this was our first rescue, we had a lot to learn about dogs from shelters. We are in the process with Lab Rescue and their partner vet, of treating the heart worms and we can't wait until that is over. Other than that, Sadie is a wonderful dog! We had forgotten how much we missed a dog in our family. The fleas and worms are gone and Sadie is feeling better, growing back the fur that was lost due to fleas and enjoying a lot of attention. She has wonderful manners and is a much loved and valued member of our family. We feel so blessed to have such a sweet, loving girl as part of our family.

Henry J

January 25, 2015 we adopted a senior Lab, our Henry J. We picked him up from his foster home, getting him in the car he settled in before we even pulled away. He laid in the back looking out the windows taking in the fresh air. I'm always amazed at how animals go with the flow trusting us in their journey. When we got home Henry J met his 2 new Corgi pals and the CATS. Honestly it was as though he'd lived with us his whole life, making himself right at home. Henry J beamed when he saw the toy box, rummaging through it until he found a tennis ball, of course. He enjoyed going for leisurely walks, with the Corgis adjusting their pace to meet his. The afternoons he would bask in the warmth of the sun while gentle breezes cooled his chocolate coat. But mealtime was his favorite time of day, he could hardly contain his excitement! Even if in a deep sleep his internal time clock would wake him to eat. Dancing and prancing until his yummy dish of food was placed before him, and don't think you can forget the treats, three exactly three. As time passed the walks were too much, the treasure hunts in the toy box ended and the summer heat too much. Henry J's bad days had sadly outnumbered his good days, sadly it was time. The morning of he had tender, juicy steak for breakfast, which he gobbled down. I had spread a blue blanket on his bed, after he'd eaten and gone out one last time he came in and laid down upon it. We had arranged for Lap of Love to come to our home and send Henry ...

Emma

In 2006 I was blessed to be introduced to Lab Rescue when I found Ellie Mae. I have grown up with dogs all my life and when I purchased my first house I need a dog to make it a home! I saw her picture online and new I had to have her. After driving to Tampa and adopting Ellie, I knew I had to be part of the organized that did such wonderful work. During my time volunteering I came across another Lab, Emma that a family was looking to surrender. Once I saw her, I knew she was the final addition we needed. She was by my side for many milestone and ended up being my daughters best friend. Last month Emma Sue crossed over the rainbow bridge and has left a hole in my heart. She was a loyal friend to me and my family and will be greatly missed. Her canine sister, Ellie isn't the same since she left us. Rest in peace my sweet dog. You weren't lucky to find me......I was lucky to find you.

Sierra

Sierra is celebrating her fourth birthday this year! I wanted to reach out and thank LRROF for fostering my best friend until I could find her and bring her home. Sierra was one of the four pups rescued by boat after Tropical Storm Debby flooded much of the Tampa Bay area in the summer of 2012. While she still isn't a big fan of the water, Sierra loves long walks, playing ball, sleeping on the couch and sunning herself in the backyard. I'm so thankful to have her has part of my life, and hope that her brothers and sisters are doing well too!

Logan

I would like everyone to know that we were the proud owners of a yellow lab named Logan. Unfortunately he passed away on 2/28/2016. We were very fortunate to have spent the quality time with him after all these years, We miss him very much. He had a great personality and loved to bug my wife at exactly 7:00pm for his walk around the neighborhood to see his friends. He was a friend maker. Thank you Labrador Retriever Rescue for providing us Logan to share in our lives. He will always have a place in our hearts. Respectfully, Jon and Haydee Mahannah

Dixie

This is my second Lab with LRRoF. I was looking for a lab that was cat friendly. I inherited when my mother passed in 2011. After searching for a few months I came across Dixie as soon as she appeared on LRRoF. She was cat friendly and a beautiful yellow girl. I contacted the foster to get directions to come see her and he lived in Ormond on a street named Bay Lake Ct. ( I live in a subdivision in Saint Cloud called Bay Lake Ranch) The beautiful yellow girls name is Dixie. Dixie was my mother's name. I knew then she would be perfect. Dixie is a wonderful yellow girl. She just loves her " kitties" and enjoys giving them a daily bath. she loves showing off her nails after getting them painted. We enjoy going to the local dog park where she loves to play with all her new friends. Again " Thank You" LRRoF and a special thanks to Larry for this beautiful sweet girl!!

Manny

This is our beloved yellow lab, Manny! This guy has been the center of our world for many years and the love and bond we share with him is tighter than most blood family members. His sweet, gentle personality is one of his best characteristics......and his constant ability to melt the hearts of anyone that comes into contact with him has been at times overwhelming. My reason for this email is not to offer him up for adoption......that was done back in 2007....... But let me back up for a moment and explain: My name is David. My husband Keith and I had our first encounter with Mr. Manny quite some time ago. We were living in Florida at the time and were looking for a yellow Labrador to add to our family. We looked for what seemed to be an eternity and finally came across this guy. After a drive from Tampa down to Coral Gables, we showed up to pick up our new friend. We were greeted at the door by a monster of a dog barreling out to see who was there. When we asked the foster mom where Manny was, she smirked and pointed out at the big blonde Labrador that we tripped over on the way in. Since that moment the 3 of us have been inseparable. Manny jumped into our car to go with us as if he had done it a hundred times before. Over the years he has given us unconditional love as we have to him. We have traveled all over the country and taken him with us to places a lot of humans never even get to enjoy. Everywhere from North Carolina, Tennesse, Tex...

Sammy

Samson is our new 5 year old buddy who is now part of our family. Special thanks to Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida. We are enjoying him so far. Sammy is perfect fit for our small family because we have been looking a long time for the right fit.

Shaina

I adopted Shaina when she was 6 or 7 years old. I already had a 7 year old black lab and I wanted a friend for her so I wanted an adult lab. She was the sweetest yellow girl who loved everyone and was the best sister to Raven. They were the best pals. We were blessed to have her for 7 years. Sadly in may we had to send her to the rainbow bridge as she had cancer that came back aggressively that we had treated 3 years prior. Her sister Raven followed her 13 days later. You will never find a love as great that a lab will give especially one from lrrof. They are so grateful to be in a forever home and show it. We are just now considering another lab from lrrof after being devastated from losing both our girls so close together. I wouldn't consider getting a lab anywhere else.
-- joanne kaplan (09/09/2015)

Annie

My Annie was a mistreated puppy and thrown from a car near a animal vet in Arcadia. She does not trust other dogs but loves all other animals. She has three cats that she shares everything with-food,bed & toys.

Connor

We adopted Connor in July 2013 when he was around 8 or 9 years old. After playing with him for 5 minutes at his foster parent Jorge's house, we knew he would fit right in with our older doggie, Sara, and our 3 cats. Connor had some issues and had obviously had a hard life previous to being rescued from MDAS by LRROF. All he needed was some love and TLC to blossom into a beautiful big black shiny goofball. He was friendly to everybody, gentle with children and other animals and left a lasting impression to all that met him. His goal in life was to be with his Mom and Dad. We lost Connor to complications to cancer at the beginning of June this year. It was very, very quick and unexpected and we miss him terribly. Even though we only had him a relatively short time, we were honored to have him stay with us for the last years of his life and thankful for the love and fun he brought us. We love you Connor. Adopting one of the wonderful labs from Lab Rescue saves the life of a needy and deserving soul and pays you back in so many ways. Don't buy, ADOPT.

Barney

We first met Barney on December 3rd, 2014. He was found as a stray and estimated to be between 9 and 10 years old. Barney had a lot of medical issues so we decided to foster him first and get him out of the shelter in Naples. After 4 months and a lot of love, care, good food and eye surgery, we adopted Barney on April 9, 2015. We love Barney to the moon and back and will provide a wonderful, loving home for him for the rest of his days on this earth. He also gets along well with Maggie, our 14 year old yellow lab who has had cancer for more than 3 years. Thank you Lea and Laurie for all of your help and for all that you do so selflessly for the pups in need.

Midnight

We adopted Midnight just before Christmas in 2006, and he was the gift that kept on giving. He was affectionately known as: "The Big Guy," and he brought years of joy to our family. He passed yesterday, but now, he is happily chasing tennis balls around the Rainbow Bridge. Over the years we have laughed while reflecting on his LROF profile description that labelled him "Unflappable" - that word was spot on. Midnight was 5-years old when he arrived and we never could understand how someone gave him up, their loss was our family's gain. He was an integral part of our daily lives, and we will miss the warm spots where he laid, his watching TV, and so much more. He took part of three hearts with him, we know he will guard them and cherish them forever! Your adopted labby sister, Rylee, has been lost without you. We miss you! Alexandra, Rylee, Mom and Dad

Ranger

After our sweet 13 year old Lab, Gator, passed we thought it would be a long time before we could bring another dog into our home and hearts. But we quickly realized that our family was just not complete without one. We decided that a puppy was not a good choice for us at this stage inour lives, so we quickly decided that a rescue was the best choice. The website had so many dogs that needed homes, it was difficult to choose just one. Our coordinator, Ellen, worked very hard to help us find one that would be perfect for or family and our lifestyle. One year ago today, we brought home Ranger. At six, he was a bit older than we had initally wanted, was 20 pounds under weight, and had a lot of fur to grow back, but we felt a connection with him right away. With good food and lots of love, Ranger has become one very handsome dog! He is so sweet and playful, loves going to the beach and getting out on our boat with us. His house manners turned out to be excellent and he quickly adjusted to our routines. This was all one big advantage to adopting an older dog! Ranger has become a great member of our family and has helped to heal our hearts after saying goodbye to Gator. We want to thank everyone in this organization for all they do to help these sweet dogs find loving forever homes. And I'm sure Ranger thanks you too!

Logan

Roughly 14 years ago I adopted Logan from your rescue. He must have been one of the first dogs part of the organization. My sweet boy was born in May 2000 and just passed away. He was the best dog ever- he joined us in 6 moves and helped welcome two beautiful daughters into this world. I remember like yesterday the day the foster mom showed up at our house with three labs, Logan was one of them. They ran around my backyard like crazy and then Logan came inside on the tile and did his superman lay down. In that instance I knew I needed him as much as he needed me. His foster mom shared that he was in two homes prior and was abused; he was terrible thin and had skin coat infection from the stress of his previous life. Logan never chewed a shoe, turn anything up and rarely had accidents in the house. He was a member of family who enjoyed the comforts of sleeping in bed with us, lounging on the couch. He favorites things to do was "bomb" people while swimming in the pool and playing frisbee in the lake. I am so lucky to have enjoyed his companionship for as many years as I did and blessed to have found your organization that introduced us.

Shadow

About 15 years ago, we contacted the South Florida Lab Rescue because we needed to make a four-legged addition to our family. We had two young children who needed a best friend. We were matched up with a young, black male lab that was named Shadow. He was an absolutely beautiful dog! When Shadow came to us, he was a little on the hyper side (typical young male Lab). Over time he grew to be an amazing dog. He was playful, protective and extremely loyal. I couldn't go anywhere without him being right by my side. As the years flew by, arthritis started to set in and we had to make the difficult choice to say goodbye to our little buddy. Another Lab has since stepped into our lives, and has taken our hearts. I couldn't imagine our family without these great dogs. We will definitely be adopting from the Lab Rescue in the future. Thank you for everything you do to give these priceless animals a chance to complete a family.

Mimi

We adopted Mimi in 2006 when our daughter was 3 - LRROF had rescued her from a local animal shelter so her age was uncertain - our vet estimated 3-5 yrs old so we decided she was the same age as our daughter! The LRROF volunteer who did our home inspection/interview has recommended an 'older' dog because of we had a small child and Mimi was the perfect match for us. From the moment we brought her home to today, she's been a gentle, happy, loving dog tolerant of kids, cats and our most recent rescue - a very large bunny. As she's gotten older she spends most of her time asleep under my desk while I work, but she's still our happy girl. We're very grateful to LRROF for helping her become part of our family.

Miranda

After our beloved Jesse passed away at 13 last July 14th, like many others we said "OK, no more dogs". Well, on November 14th, exactly 4 months later, we drove 2 and 1/2 hours to meet beautiful Miranda. She spent 3 months with her foster mom recovering from heart worm and was now well enough to be adopted. Her foster mom took very good care of her and we knew they had a special bond. Miranda was a bit anxious at being, once again, relocated, but we can now say that she has completely adjusted to her forever home, and is a sweet, well behaved, loving and delightful family member! The picture is of her doing one of her favorite things...making sure the squirrels around our house are behaving themselves! Thank you LRRoF! Thank you! Jude and Jack Dawes

Jerry Lee

WOW....LROF was spot on!!! Our Counselor MaryAnn and her Husband were perfect in our assessment of what dog would be good for our household. We meet Jerry Lee and our heart spilled out for him. We want to THANK first and foremost LROF for what they do by saving these dogs. A VERY Special THANK YOU to MaryAnn and Ann for there kindness and diligence in getting the right dog to Shelley and I. Jerry Lee is special and we can't wait to continue to spoil him daily!! Rick Shears

Rosie

I lost my Chocolate Lab (Roxie) due to old age (14 1/2 years old) I live alone and was heartbroken. I said that's it ! Im not getting any more dogs. It just hurts to much. I was sitting alone every night just thinking about my Roxie and crying my eyes out. After 2 months, I couldn't stand it any more. I started looking to rescue another Chocolate Lab. ( I rescued Roxie as a puppy) I looked at all the rescue web sites that I could find. Finally I contacted LRRoF, filled out an adoption application. I was contacted and A representative came to my house and I was approved for adoption. Now I just had to wait for a dog to come along. Lo and behold the very next day there was Ella that was just brought to the foster parents. I drove to Fort Lauderdale on a Sunday and fell in love with her immediately. She was overweight and somewhat a little wild. She now has lost about 15 lbs and looks great. I brought her to the vet for her rabies shot and he couldn't get over just how beautiful and how her coat was just so shiny. She is in good health and I am still in the process of training her. she has learned so much in just a short time and she is eager to learn more. Thank You so much LRRoF for connecting us together. We are now both happy and so grateful to you. Thank You Again. Ray

Shadow

We couldn't be happier with our experience. Shadow is equally comfortable roughing it up with other large breeds or snuggling with our two young daughters and 7 pound Shih-tzu mix. In short he is a lab; loving, playful, smart, and loyal. Thanks LRROF!! Special thanks to Kenny, Maryanne, Mike, and Deb.

Lola

Lola was fostered in a home along with 7 pugs. On our way to meet her, we agreed that we'd not make any decision that night. 2 hours later, we were driving home with her. She is a joyous animal and is better trained than any other dog I've known. We are so lucky to have found her. Thank you Lab Recue.

Dixie

Rachel is now Dixie. She is very smart. Came with her siblings and mother from Alabama where they were scheduled for execution. She is very sensitive to my disorientation at times when we go walking or camping or to the store. I had a brain injury in 1999 and she has naturally picked up on my needs and helping me. She loves to go camping with our family and adores children. She has developed some occasional hip pain at a very young age exacerbated by a lot of outdorr play so I am careful to limit her activities. Upon reasearching the risks associated with spaying prior to one year of age, I was disgusted. You rather than educate and provide incentives for spaying after one year as recommended did it while she was a puppy and thus predisposed her to osteosarcoma and thyroid problems. I regret this. I hope you will consider education and incentives in the future. At the time, I questioned this as an RN and also from being told in years past that the dog should be at least a year old or have had one cycle. I was informed by your staff that there was no problem with spaying puppies. WRONG! Dishonesty will never pay off in the end.

Eli

In Aug 2013 we lost our Choc girl Bogey after 12 years with us. She was also rescued by us in Maryland. Our hearts were broken and I was now retired so we vowed no more dogs. Early in 2014 Gertie started looking at the LRROF site. I just knew what was coming. We went to some meet n greets and met Wanda, a LRROF volunteer and foster. We were looking for an older dog and she told us about Eli. We went to her house to meet him and the rest is history. We were scheduled to drive to our summer home in northern Michigan just one week after the adoption. In the vehicle he goes after only being with us for one week but you would have thought we had him much longer. He has put on a couple of pounds, which was needed, and is enjoying the cool summer weather and swimming in the nearby lake. I would highly recommend adopting a senior dog. He was all trained and ready to go. Soon the weather will turn cold and we will be headed back to Florida. Some of my friends say that Eli has hit the lottery and if that's true I we have done so as well.

Lulubelle

It all started with our first lab, a wonderful, beautiful black "block head" Baby Dog. She was with us for 17 years and she filled our hearts with love. We first adopted KoKo, a chocolate beauty, from LROF when she was 5 years old, we later "inherited" Ranger from our son and his wife when our granddaughter was born and they couldn't have a pup in their leased house, Ranger was also a LROF pup! Ranger was a "block" head chocolate lab who was stone deaf, he became my velcro dog who watched me constantly with his goofy smile! We lost both of our pups to cancer, KoKo at 13 and then Ranger at 8 years, too young - our hearts were broken. I knew my life wouldn't be complete nor would my house be a home without another labbie. We adopted Lulubelle, a beautiful, smart, fun loving little girl (3 years old) in July - she's a yellow "block head" and she has taken over our hearts with her sweet ways!!! Thank you to everyone at LROF, especially Ronda, Pat & Debra!

Mollie

We came to know Mollie by her picture on the website. We fell in Love with her. After talking to Christina at Lab Rescue we knew she was the right Girl for our family. Lab Rescue is a caring ,loving and committed group. They really care! Mollie is the most Gentle, Loving and Loyal creature. I can't imagine life without her. She completes our Family.
-- Channing Oglesby (08/03/2014)

Hank

We adopted Hank on our Anniversary in 2006. We have three boys that adore him every day. He goes to work with my Husband some days and everybody loves him. When we got him he was broken. He endured being on the run and heat rashes. The adjustment period was quick. He has become our 4th child. He loves to swim and boat. He is loved by so many people outside of our family. He has been a true blessing. Thank you Florida Labrador Rescue.
-- Becky Duffy (08/02/2014)

Buddy

We had lost our senior Chocolate Lab Monte and, even though we still had our 3-mutt pack, there was still something missing. We saw Handsome (aka Buddy) on the LRROF site and decided that we HAD to meet him. After the application and inspection, we drove to his foster's home for a "visit". As soon as we were inside, this big GALOOT of a dog came up and started smothering us with kisses. We knew immediately that we were meant to be his "forever home" parents. We drove home, introduced him to the others, and he fit in like he'd known us his whole life. He has the sweetest disposition, loves the other dogs, and is the world's biggest snuggler. Thanks for finding us this AWESOME BOY!

Ellie

My husband and I already own a yellow lab Belle, she is 14 years old and we have had her since she was 6 weeks old. Our son has grown up with her and we decided that with her being a senior that it was time to think about having another dog in our family. That is when I came across Ellie on the LRROF website. I beautiful white coat young girl. I saw that the LRROF was going to be at our local Petsmart that weekend so we went to talk with them about her. Sad that she was not one of the dogs that was there we quickly jumped at getting our paperwork in as we were told she was popular. By the end of that week Ellie was ours. She has made herself extremely comfortable in her new home. Sleeping on the bed and couch all day, playing ball with our son and taking really long walks with my husband. She gets along great with Belle and she doesn't mind her either. Ellie is certainly full of life, trying to take anything off the kitchen if left there and learning how to be more loving. She is happy in her new home as we are having her. We look forward to the years to come with her. Thank you LRROF for helping us with a perfect match for our family!
-- Michele Escobar (03/26/2014)

nyx

My husband wanted a larger dog and I knew how hyper labs can be so I was not sold on the idea until we saw this little black lab in the petsmart cart. She was calm and cuddly and for some reason I knew she would be a good dog for us and our cavalier king charles spaniel. She took a long while to come out of her she'll as she was scared of everything but now she is happy and healthy with all her fur again. Oh and super smart.

Dallas

We rescued Diamond 10 years ago. We knew instantly he was the new family member after spending time with him at the Meet and Greet at Petco. We went through the process of adopting him and were very pleased with the home visit and application. LRROF truly has the best interest for the placement of these loving dogs. After some conversation we changed Diamonds name to Dallas which he took to quickly. Dallas was with us until last week. He was our best friend for 10 years and is truly missed. He was a true LAB and missed his calling as a Service Dog. Dallas amazed us everyday with his intelligence, patients and careful stride with my elderly grandmother and children. He loved to cuddle and sit next to you. We will adopt again from LRROF but need time to heal over the loss of our best friend.
-- Georgette Graisbery (03/04/2014)

Brogan

Lab Rescue was easy to work with and Brogan's foster family were very informative and looked out for his best interest. Everyone made looking for a dog exciting and fun. Brogan saved us! When we adopted Brogan we knew our 2 older labs would be taking a walk across the rainbow bridge in years to come. We wanted a young dog in our life who knew and loved them as much as we did. One who could have their picture taken with our older dogs and keep their memory fresh. Brogan filled their hearts and it was like the three of them had always been together. They played, swam, slept together and shared many happy times. We our 11.5 year old female left us. Brogan was there to love us and became closer to the leader of the pack. We introduced a puppy to the teamof two and they fell in love with her. Several months later after the leader Ace taught the puppy all his leadership skills he left us. Brogan now had a puppy to himself and the two of us who were so thankful he needed us. He is very loving and when he looks us in the eyes, they seem to say do you love me? Of course we do 4 ever and 4 always!!!!

Max

I had fostered several dogs for LRRoF. Everyone I dealt with with the organization is in it for all the right reasons. It's amazing how many dogs need a home. Our circumstances changed to where we could permanently adopt a dog of our own. Enter Max, nee Brownie. He is a gorgeous chocolate boy who has changed our lives for the better. He was just over a year old when we started fostering him. He had been placed with a dog trainer who volunteered her time and services. He was a typical crazy lab puppy. He had spent most of the first year of his life crated nearly 24/7. He has made himself comfortable on the sofa and should soon start receiving mail at the house…. I can't say enough about LRRoF. ADOPT ADOPT ADOPT!!! Thanks for our guy. xo Kirby and Carlos

Kerry

We knew our dog didn't have much longer to live. I wanted to be prepared to adopt when the time came. I had scheduled a home visit for a Monday. That time moved up when our girl died Thursday. I know some of you are thinking ... What's the rush? Well we had been looking on the website and had seen Kerry aka Annabelle. She was ready and was going to be at Petsmart on Saturday. Our home visit was moved to Saturday! We got the girl of our dreams. I would not hesitate to adopt again from Lab Rescue!
-- Pat O'Connor (12/31/2013)

Chuck & Zeus

I adopted Chuck from Lab Rescue about 2 years ago and recently got Zeus from there as well. They turned out to be 2 of the best dogs anyone could ask for. They are gorgeous and sweet as pie. I couldn't imagine life without them.

Kipper & Marlin

We are so blessed to have brought both Kip and Marlin into our lives. We had signed up with LRROF after the loss of one of our boys, Flash, in March. We have previous experience with LRROF and wanted to provide a loving home for another precious Lab. After the wonderful home visit by Terri, we found Kipper, who was being fostered by Carolyn in Sarasota. She was kind enough to bring him by for a "meet and greet", and it was love at first sight! Needless to say, he found his forever home that night. Fast forward a few months...we experienced another devistating loss of our eldest boy, Levi. During the following month, I contacted LRROF regarding volunteering with the organization. After a month went by, Carolyn sent me an email regarding fostering a young boy named Morgan. Well, to make a long stoy short, Marlin (previously Morgan) has joined Kip in their forever home. They both get along splendidly with each other, and also our other two rescues, Courage (Lab) and Axel (Aussie). The folks at LRROF are most certainly "earthly angels" for doing all that they do for those who cannot fend for themselves and are looking for that "forever HOME". God bless you all and the Labs who find their way into your care. PS. In the first photo left to right: Marlin, Kipper, Courage & Axel. Second Photo left to right: Marlin, Kipper, Courage.

Buddy

Buddy is doing great. Him and my husband walk 3-5 miles each morning, the kids of the neighborhood know buddy and love on him every morning when they are at the bus stop. At Halloween he goes to the door to greet them and they all say hi to him. They may not know our name but they all know buddy. Our grandson comes over and buddy is very good with him and he loves buddy. We have spoiled him some but he minds very well. He is a very lovable Lab who gets a lot of love and attention. Our vet calls him a lucky dog. We've had him about 30 years. We want to say thank you for rescuing Buddy so we can have the opportunity to love him and be loved by him.

Holly

When Jim and I went to see Holly at Pat's house, we knew instantly that she was ours. She looked so petite next to her foster brothers but she played just as hard. She is sweet and full of energy. Holly had heartworm when we adopted her. We are happy to say that she is heartworm free and happy and healthy. We are so thrilled we could give Holly her forever home. She brings so much happiness and love into our home - it would not be the same without her!

Charlie

We adopted Charlie shortly after our chocolate lab passed away. Our black Lab Molly was missing her and so we decided to get another dog. I can't say enough about Charlie. He and Molly bonded imediatly. He had seperation anxiety when we got him. But we worked with him and he become the best dog ever. He was gentle, loving, funny, playful. He filled our hearts with much love and joy! Charlie passed away this January. He had cancer. Way to early he was only 7yrs old. It has been 10 months since he passed and it's still very painful to talk about him. I can't thank Pat enough for fostering him and allowing him to come into our lives. We have since rescued another dog. She is a chocolate lab/pit. She is helping to fill the void in our heart. But we miss our "Bubbie" (his nickname) everyday. Thanks again LRROF .

Simon and Mya

Thank you to all the volunteers at Lab Rescue for bringing Simon and Mya into our lives. We adopted Simon nine years ago, and Mya four years ago. We will never know why their previous owners did not want them, but are thankful they are a part of our lives now.

Honeygirl

It is with much sorrow I announce the passing of my beloved friend and companion Honeygirl this week after a short illness. In May 2005 I was approved to adopt a dog and looked at half dozen dogs within a 1 hour radius of Orlando. The foster families were wonderful people with big hearts. I found Honeygirl and rescued her because her foster family had small kids and when they jumped on her she never barked or growled she just got up and moved away. The first year was tough on both of us, she had been bounced around and was not overly trusting. Honeygirl would go off into lengthy barking fits. While she was easy to train there was an anger to her that first year. It took patience but she came to know I had nothing but unconditional love for her and in returned she gave me the same love back. Honeygirl used to rub her head and face into my chest and stomach to show me how much she loved me. I taught her how to walk correctly on a leash, not to mooch people food, run out the door without permission and our favorite tug of war games with almost anything. The first time I loaded up a Kong Toy it took her several hours to get everything out. The second time she took the toy and threw down on the kitchen tile and everything popped out. From that point on she got peanut butter in her Kong. The most impressive thing about Honeygirl was how many of my old neighbors in Lake Mary Fl asked me to help them teach their dogs to be like her - gentle, loving, and obedient and also ter...

Moose

About a year and a half ago I went to the St. Johns County Animal Rescue with the intention of finding the perfect dog to adopt. We were renting a house at the time and couldn't adopt a dog over 20 pounds. At the very end of the row of barking dogs was a beautiful, chocolate, male lab who was just sitting pretty and looking at us. I wanted to take him home so bad but knew that I couldn't so we decided not to adopt that day. Fast forward a year and a few months and I have been working with Lab rescue to bring home a lab to our new home that we OWN. I happened to ask if she knew or remembered a lab that was in the shelter in St. Johns at the time I went in there and she said "Yes, as a matter of fact, I think that lab is being returned by a lady who adopted him and can't keep him because he chases her cats. He was chocolate right?" I couldn't believe it!!! What were the odds? So I arranged to Foster him to possibly adopt with the hope that he would learn to be around cats...I have 2. Within 2 weeks he had made friends with my 2 cats and I catch him laying with the youngest cat quite a bit. We adopted him last month and it's hard to imagine how we were without him. We love him so much!!! He is super smart and so sweet and LOVES us!

Max

Sadly in March of 2013 we lost our beloved 13 year old black Lab Trooper. He was the best dog. We decided after a few weeks our house was lonely, and Trooper would want us to give a fellow Lab the chance of a forever home like he was blessed to have for 13 years. We put in our application to adopt with Lrrof and shortly after we were approved we got a call from Christina telling about a beautiful 15 month old male chocolate lab who's previous owners surrendered him to Animal Control for no other reason than they simply did not want him anymore. Two seconds after seeing Max we realized he was meant to be with us. It has been a few months and Max has never looked back at his previous life. He sleeps in the room in a comfy bed with his mommy and daddy. He plays all day long with his 5 year old human brother, and LOVES the numerous trips in the car to various places in town or to his Nana and Pappy's house in Panama City Beach. We are so thankful for Lab Rescue and thankful to give Max the home he deserve plus all the love in the world!

Bentley

We lost our yellow lab Mickey last fall to meningitis. We were heart broken for months and knew our chocolate lab Bailey was longing for her companion back. We were recently running into many people that had rescue dogs and decided to give it a try. The folks at LRROF were very friendly & helpful. We found Bentley on only our second visit and fell in love with him, and so did Bailey which was even more important. Bentley was comfortable with all of us from the first day and us with him. Now Bentley is part of the family and we can't imagine life without him. You can't replace a loved one that has been lost but you can take your love and give it to those less fortunate.

Tank

Tank was heartworm positive, and had a bad skin condition due to flea allergies when he came to us. Terrified of storms, he was in rough shape when the rescuers found him dumped out by the interstate. Lab Rescue took him in and helped get him well. It took no time at all for this loving, wonderful boy to win our hearts. We make it our goal in life to help make up for the neglect he had in the past, and show him all the love he deserves. He is a wonderful addition to our family. Cuddle time on the hammock is a favorite.

Blaze

We began looking for a dog with the Lab Rescue in the beginning of April. We came to meet a chocolate lab named Blade. He was with his foster mom in Bonita and had been surrendered due to a new baby in the previous home. When we meet him he was all wiggles and smiles. He had ALOT of energy. After we met him we knew that we loved him, but it all depended on our two dogs reaction in meeting him the next day. We were nervous, but had already bough Blade a bed, a collar, and a dog bowl. When everyone meet it was perfect. Tails wagging and everyone on their best behavior. Blade, who is now named Blaze, came home with us. He has been a delight and has provided not only more love in our house, but a more playful atmosphere to our older dogs. He has learned to sit, settle, and walk politely on his leash. The dogs continue to get to know one another, but all sleep by each other. We cannot thank the lab rescue enough for giving this sweet dog a second chance and a forever home.

Zeus & Max

I wanted to tell our story and how great adpoting has been. We got Zeus (our chocolate) just over 3 yerars ago from Pat in New Port Richie. He was one year old at the time. He was just a great dog right away. Loves the tennis ball,, in fact lives for it. Super sweet and smart. We grew to love him so much,,, we adopted another. We got Max (the Yellow) about 6 months ago now when he was almost a year old. He's different than Zeus and has more energy than I could ever imagine. He's a bit of a rascal,, and always wants to play. Sweet, smart and loves to have his belly rubbed. I can't imagine life without these two knuckleheads.

Kona Coffee

I was worried at first, but after the application process, I saw how serious the volunteers were and then I knew there was no way we where going to placed with the wrong dog. Kona has fit right in with our family and brought new happiness into our home and the kiddos love her. There's nothing better than the sound of clacking of her paws and nails as she tracks through the house to see what everyone is doing. This short film says it all. http://labradorchronicles.com/m/videos/view/Rescue-a-Labrador

Max

What a great experience getting Max has been for our family. We have two boys, ages 10 and 16, plus two dachsunds and we decided we needed another dog to add to our already hectic lifestyle. We were nervous, but for some reason we charged ahead and contacted Lab Rescue (as we wanted a little larger dog). From the first call from Vicki, with lab rescue, we felt more comfortable with the process, but still a little nervous. Then we asked about Max, "he is still a puppy lots of energy and based on your application may not be exactly what you are looking for, but let's see". We decided to visit, still nervous about what we were getting into, but kept moving forward. The whole family went to meet Max, including the two dachsunds, we spent two hours with Dan (Max's foster parent) and Max and we knew we needed Max in our family. However, being the nervous parents we were about adding another pet, we hesitated for about 30 minutes, then called Dan and decided to move forward. It has been the best experience for our family and Max has fit in so well, we just love him! One thing that stands out in the process to me is how loving Dan was as a foster parent and the time he took to tell us everything, good and bad. In addition, he took the time to come to our home to deliver Max, making Max feel much more comfortable with the process......so great! We are so happy and honored to be a part of such a great organization! Thanks again for all the support and of course, Max!

Jake

Happy Jake! I wanted to write lab rescue and tell my happy story. It has been one year since I found my forever home and I have never been happier! When I first arrived home I was very nervous and shy but my momma was very loving and now she says I'm her social butterfly. I get to go for walks everyday and sniff, run and play. It sure beats my days as a street dog. Momma calls me Jake, her lover boy, sweetheart, hambone and good boy. I guess she can't decide on just one name for me, that's ok I'm smart and answer to all of them. I have to admit I blush a little when she says she's not sure who rescued who and gives me a big kiss. But, I never miss the chance for hugs and kisses. I've made so many new dog friends, and even have a few cousin dogs that I call family. My birthday is coming up and although momma puts a birthday hat on me and takes pictures I get to play in the water and even get a special birthday cake! I'm one happy dog, thank you lab rescue for helping feel better and for helping me find my forever home! Happy Tails! Jake Brasher (formerly CJ the street dog)

Morgan

Just an update about what a great organization Lab Rescue is. We adopted Morgan, a black lab, in March 2004 in Orlando; he had come straight from a week of vet care after being found on the streets with a collar growing into his neck. LRROF estimated he was about 4 years old, making him around 13 today. He has slowed down and turned grey over the years, but he is still an important part of our family and is loved by all for his easy going demeanor. Keep up the great work Lab Rescue!!!

Zeus

I adopted my beloved Zeus from your organization eight years ago. Zeus was 2 years old when he was surrendered to LRRoF. I was introduced to him shortly after he got to his foster home in Orlando. Zeus and I had eight amazing years together. We saw much of the country together. He passed away on Friday at age 10. Thank you for your organization and for finding labs great homes!

Hank

After losing our Lab a few years ago and then our shephard due to cancer last July we knew we wanted to adopt another dog, this time from the Lab Rescue. We had to wait until after the summer because I was in NJ until September helping my daughter with her new twins and my husband and I had travel plans in October. We checked the lab rescue website everyday to start our seach for our new family member. Just before leaving for another visit to NJ and then a business trip in D.C. we saw Hank on the Lab website. My husband and I both liked him immediately. We checked everyday to see if he was still available. We decided to go to a Vegan Food festival in downtown Tampa one Saturday, just before leaving for NJ because we saw that the Lab Rescue was going to be there with some dogs. We thought we could start looking at the different dogs that were there that day. As fate would have it when we spotted the Lab Rescue booth there was Hank! We loved him immediately and he seemed to love us and that was the end of our search! Love at first sight! We were told his story, he was abondoned, sick, skinny and had heart worms when he was found. The Lab Rescue brought him back to a healthy beautiful dog! We started the paperwork and he was brought to our house to make sure he was ok with our cat. He was and Hank was ours. Hank didn't have a foster home and was boarded at a donated kennel at Uncle G's in Dover but he did have a handler, Mark, and we were so grateful that they could keep Hank a ...

mollie pie

i got mollie just after hurricane katrinia in 2005. she showed up at my neighbors home with a friend of theirs from waveland, mississippi just after the storm . the owner said he could not take care of her any more as he had lost his home in the storm .he asked if they could find her a home. there was an instant bond between mollie and me. all we knew was that she was about 3 years old,a pure breed yellow lab and appeared healthy. after a vet visit i fould out she had heart worms and several other parisites. my vet gave her kemmo shots and a battery of other meds. she had what appeared to be ciggaret burns on her back and afew other scars around her head.it took a year to get her back into a loving lab mood but it was worth every bit of the caring my family gave her. mollie pie turn out to be the best companiun i have ever had. saddly i had to put her down january 4,2013 after a bout with cancer. i am grieving the loss of my mollie but with time i am going to find another lab that needs my love . i intend to watch your website and with a little time find my next buddy.

Nala

We got our dog, Nala from your wonderful organization back in 2007 when she was a puppy, from a lovely foster volunteer named Miranda. Our son and daughter were just 4 and 7 and were very excited to add a dog to our family! Nala has been a wonderful dog over the years - she responded well to training since she was very young and became a beloved family member. She loves people, going on walks, and enjoys playing fetch with a tennis ball. 🙂 In 2011, we moved back to California after spending 9 years in Tampa, Florida. We recently celebrated Nala's 5th birthday and she's really enjoying life as a California girl . 🙂 -The Hinds Family

Sekhar

I adopted my lab-mix, Sarah 11 years ago, and my mixed breed dog, Maya a few months after that. They were best friends. And then, in May 2012 Maya died suddenly. Her death left us all terribly sad, Sarah included. And when I thought of the best thing I could to to honor Maya's life I thought that giving another dog a happy home was the best way to do that. We knew we would never have another Maya, but we set out to find another dog who we could love just like we loved Maya. After looking around for several weeks, we decided that another lab would be wonderful. And soon we found a sweet 5 month old black lab from Lab Rescue of FL who reminded us of Sarah when she was young. We named him Sekhar (pronounced "shaker") after astrophysicist Dr. Chandrasekhar because this dog was so dark black he reminded us of a Black Hole! Sekhar is silly, funny and sweet... and we love him like crazy....even if he has mistakenly eaten a few pairs of shoes (Birkenstocks are particularly yummy). He's a perfect family dog for me and my young boys. Plus, Sarah has a new companion--one who is considerably younger, but keeps her on her toes and has given her her energy back!

Ruby

When Ruby came to the Orange County Sheriff's Office she was in great condition, due to the great care provied by her foster parent. Before being taken in by Lab Rescue she wasn't as lucky. Ruby was was one day away from being put down and had a bad skin infection and had just dropped a litter of pups. To say it was hard to see picture of her in this state is an under statement. Thank goodness Lab Rescue stepped in when they did. Ruby is now a fully certified Narcotics K-9 with the Sheriff's Office. She will be saving lives by stopping illicet narcotics making it to the streets. She is also the best friend to Agent Hannon and his kids when she is off duty. Here is Ruby with her first narcotics seizure which has a street value of $62,000.00. Moneys that won't make it to the pockets of drug dealers which are responsible for 90% of the crime in Orange County. Thank you Lab Rescue for all that you do.

Sunshine

It has been 10 years since we adopted Sunshine from Lab Rescue of Florida. Sunshine was roughly one years old and at the pound. After a heartworm check, being spayed, and a few days, actually, from the first call, we interviewed and were able to bring Sunshine home. She has been the best dog we have ever had. We are about to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and her 11th birthday this month. I felt moved to share with anyone who is wondering if a lab is the right dog for you, to research all you can and be open to a lot of love. Sunshine really needed love to get over her fears from being homeless and she had a lot of love to give. Labs are very oral dogs and like to chew the first 4 years of life. You have to be able to supply them with safe chew toys and give them lots of exercise. We found crate training in the early years to be a must and also obedience school so we could communicate with her. She turned out to be so smart and really was easy to train. She still likes to run after the ball, chews on toys, and takes a few walks a day. She gets me out in the fresh air and reminds me to play! After this wonderful experience, I can't say enough about the rewards of adopting a lab. Check it out! Labs are awesome! The sound of their voice when a stranger comes to the door sounds like a very agressive dog, yet you will never worry having children around as they are very gentle. Thanks for letting me tell my story and I wish all the labs wonderful homes...as our S...

kirby

I just wanted to let lab rescue know of the passing of kirby. Kirby was at a tampa adoption day and i immediatly bonded ,he has been by my side ever since and as most people know that is a bond that will live forever even though he is not here . Kirby was the most polite and patiant dog i have ever owned, not only did he give me great pleasure he gave many many other people the same patiant love. This was obvious when i had a final farwell ceremony at a local beach bar called woodies,he had been a "regular"there since his puppy days and was the center of attraction to many locals and snow birds who were away from there pets,20 to 30 people turned up to say farwell at sunset,as the sun set and we bid farwell a school of large fish started jumping in front of us,coincidence??probably! but for me and all there he was also saying goodbye. I would like to thank lab rescue for introducing me to Kirby,he got me through some sad times in my life,he touched every one he met,the perfect gentleman, rest in piece my true friend, phil smithies

Toby

We have 2 young children on the Autism spectrum, and had promised them a dog when our youngest turned 3, which came in March. We were hoping to find a dog that was calm, and big enough to handle them. We did our home interview, and resigned ourselves to a long wait to find the perfect dog for our family. After less than a week, our caseworker called and said she found him! It was on the opposite coast, but he sounded great, so we were willing to drive the 4 hours. We met Charlie and his foster mom at an event, spent about 30 minutes with him, and we all fell in love. He was awesome on the 4 hour ride home, and the kids couldn't get enough of him! After getting him home, we voted on his new name, and decided on Toby. He has now been with us for about 7 months, and has been the absolute perfect dog for us. Our 6 year old daughter loves to cuddle with him wherever he lies, and our 3 year old always wants to throw him his tennis ball. We are so happy we decided to use a rescue group, and have been recommending it to people we know looking for dogs.

Bella

A little over 5 years ago I decided to adopt a rescue puppy. I was unable to make my first meeting with the foster parent and was so worried that when I got to go see the puppies they would all be spoken for. There was ONE puppy left, and it can only be because she was meant for me. When I adopted Bella, I never could have known the impact she would have on my life. She is not just a pet, my "child", my soul mate, a best friend or my running partner... there is nothing I could say that could describe what she means to me and I owe that to LRROF for saving her, her momma and her brothers and sisters. Thank you.
-- Rachel McPherson (12/10/2012)

Jo Jo

I had a local lady come by our home with her labrador retriever. We spoke with each other for a while and I felt quiet comfortable through out the time. No pressure.

McQueen

We had to have our two year old lab Colby put down due to cancer. We left Michigan and came down to our home in Florida . It reminded us of Colby, hischew toys and his chair. The house was too empty. We called FLRC and talked about adoption. We asked for a two year old male. They called and told us about a six year old male who needed us. He had been abused and left alone. When we saw McQueen ,we knew he was OUR dog.We all needed time to get to know each other. He now sits in our boat and loves to fish . He still steals sandwiches but now we let him. He's not sure about snow.He shares his food with his little brothers ,a chihuahuas, and a six month chocolate lab puppy. We know that we didn't save McQueen as much as he made our family complete.

Macy

We lost our chocolate lab earlier in 2011 and how home felt so empty. Our golden retriever wandered around and whined constantly. My husband and I knew then that we would have to get another addition to our family. However, our daughter had special needs and this would limit our ability to bring in a puppy or senior dog to the mix. A friend who adopts shepherd suggested I look for a retriever rescue society and it was through that suggestion we found florida labs. Our home inspection was wonderful. However, we had a few dogs recommended that did not have a history of children so that was disappointing. Then we met Masie "macy" ! She was open friendly and wonderful from the start. She loved children and has enjoyed being a litter mate to three young children and one senior dog. Macy will sit with our daughter and let her rub and comb her fur. She will rough house with our oldest son. She sleeps under the bed of our youngest son and keeps a watchful eye on all three when they are outside playing. Macy is such a wonderful addition to our family and I can hardly believe we are coming up on our first anniversary with her this December as it seems she just bounced into our lives yesterday. Thank you so much Lab rescue for bringing this delightful dog into our home. Sincerely, Elle, Nick, Isaiah, Maiah, Ricky & Michael the golden.

Bear

In February 2007, my parents adopted Booker from Lab Rescue. He was a young pup at the time – about 18 months – but already an ‘old soul’. He has this regal and distinguished personality and demeanor about 90% of the time. The other 10% he’s pure silly, fun, and playful. He has brought so much joy into our lives that I just knew I would have a dog of my own one day. That day came in September of 2011. Booker had spent about 3 weeks with me while my parents were out of town. When they came back and he went home, my house just felt empty. I knew it was time. I began browsing the ‘adoptable labs’ portion of the site, and Bear immediately caught my eye. He was proudly wearing a pair of aviator sunglasses with a huge smile. I read about him, looked at the rest of his pictures, and just knew he was mine. I did my due diligence and looked at the rest of the dogs just to be sure, but my mind was made up. About a week later, he was mine. He and I bonded almost immediately, it was like he knew that I’m his “forever Mom”. It was sad – his previous owner(s?) had never taken the time to leash train him… or really train him beyond anything other than ‘sit’. We had a lot of work to do. At 6 years old, we were working on leash training, laying down, obeying commands, and even how to play with toys. It took time, effort, and patience on both ends, but he now heels when he walks (usually), comes when called (again, usually), and knows several comma...

Tucker

We want to thank Lab Rescue for saving our special boy, Tucker from being euthanized in the Pasco County shelter that fateful January day in 2011. When we came to meet tucker (Dragon) for the first time I remember saying to Pat and her husband - "We are outdoor people" and with one big lick from Tucker we knew our match was made. Tucker has since been on TV, in the newspaper and draw by an artist who saw at him at an equine event. Tucker is a member of our family now and forever - Thank you again Pat for all your hard work on saving this wonderful breed, one lab at a time.

Wesley

We rescued Wesley in June of this year. He is the sweetest most loving dog, we had an instant bond actually, despite our mutual nervousness. He was only 8 months old and he grown to be a stunning young man in such a short time 🙂 He has the most innocent ways and gives true meaning to unconditional love, I sometimes think he gives us hugs. He has brought such a loving fun dynamic to our family, I think he rescued us as much as we did him. We love Wesley very much! ** We have had Wesley for 3 Months now. I like to teach him trick and play games. He has made our family so proud we decided to enter him in the Calendar Contest, I hope he wins! To me he is one of a kind ** Alyssa Mahoney 9 years old

Rocky

My previous rescue Bedlington terrier passed in February 2010 at age 15 years- his name was Winston and I had also rescued his father who passed in 2002- Hemingway was his name and they were both from Key West- confiscated in a drug bust. After a period of mourning, I was deterined to rescue another dog and decided to pursue a Labrador- I had never owned a "big" dog before but Labs are so engaging. Initially, Lab Rescue gave me a young girl Lab in fall 2010 named Leyla. She was a sweet girl with me but had heartworms and was agressive with other dogs and people- it was an unfortunate pairing but I do not blame Lab Rescue- I think the foster family did not live up to expectations and maybe misrepresented Leyla's condition but that is not important at this time. After 3 months Lab Rescue agreed to take her back to foster and it was very hard to let her go because she was so sweet with me- I only hope I gave her 3 months of additional loving foster care. I hope she has found a better forever home- she deserves it. In March 2011 they matched me with Rocky- a 5-6 year old black lab who is the best thing who ever happened to me. He has never had an accident, barked (except at meals with joy and expectation) or chewed. He is a cuddly best friend- so open and loving and attached to me- he is perfect, great on the leash, and everyone in my community loves him and dotes on him. He goes to day care at Central Bark in Fort Lauderdale 3 times a week and is called Rock Star by the staff-...

Levi

We found a picture of Levi on your website and fell in love. We applied and found he was still available. He had been placed from the foster home to a kennel. We made arrangements to go meet him at the kennel. We were told by the foster Sandra, that she wasn't sure if he was housebroken and that there were some behavioral issues. My husband is retired so we felt like he would have the time to devote to him to train him properly. We met him at the kennel and just knew he was the one we wanted to add to our family, even with the possible issues. He rode home beautifully and exceeded anything we expected. He adjusted right away to our home and is now friends with our three cats. He had never swam before so we slowly introduced him to our swimming pool - he had the stairs memorized within a day. He now goes swimming and walking everyday. He has never had an accident in the house and has never chewed anything that wasn't a toy for him. I find that I can't speak to someone about him without filling up with joy. He is forever our family member and we love him so completely! I can't imagine our lives without Levi!

Charlie

After we lost our Lab of 17 years and our Lab Dalmatian mix of 14 years we said we would not get another dog again and just live life. After 2 years we found out that life had to include a Lab. We knew we did not want a puppy, nothing against puppies, but at 62 I wanted a dog that was my speed. I did a lot of research and found Florida Lab Rescue on the internet and their site just drew me to them. Their caring stories, the pictures of the rescues and their particular stories. I found a particular dog wearing white leggings. His name was Charlie. Not only did I fall in love with his picture but I fell in love with his name. He looked like a Charlie and he looked like he just wanted someone to love him. Well, he found the right family. We cannot thank Laura and Trish enough for bringing the 3 of us together. The days since Charlie has come into our lives can only be described as joyous! I asked for a shadow and that is what I got. Where I go Charlie goes except at night, he likes to make sure Mama is safe and sleeps on her side until morning when it is time to get up he comes and gives me a big wake up kiss. One thing I have not mentioned, Charlie is a senior. Just like me. People tend to not want an older dog. Older dogs need a home and love also. You cannot believe how much love Charlie has brought into our home. He makes our days so enjoyable. He is so smart. We have invented indoor soccer with his tennis ball. He has a blast playing. He already has one squirrel that loves...

Ordie

We adopted Ordie, formerly "Joe/Thunder" a little over a month ago. LRROF saved him from the SPCA and treated his heart worm. He is 4 years old and at first we were thinking of getting a younger dog but I am so glad we were matched with him. He is the best dog ever, so please don't overlook the older dogs. He came home with us on Father's Day 2012 and it seems like he has been part of our family for years. He started answering to his new name right away and is named after daddy's job in the Navy. LRROF was awesome and made sure that we found the perfect match for our family since we have two small children. Ordie is so amazing with our kids and they love him so much. He is my buddy and is always at my side and loves to go on walk/runs with me everyday, it is nice to have a running partner. Since we are a Navy family Daddy is gone frequently but he is always super excited to see him when he comes home. He is currently going through some training at pet smart which he loves because he gets to play with other dogs. He is truly the perfect dog for our family and we couldn't be more grateful to LRROF for helping us find our last family member to make our family whole.

Cocoa Cee Cee

Cyndi Brozovich- Cocoa Cee Cee was found in NC in April right around my birthday running the streets. She had birthed many litters of puppies. Lab Rescue of Florida went right up to get her. All I wanted for my birthday was a chocolate female lab from rescue. I stay home all day due to my illness and needed a companion. When Cocoa came for her home visit at the end of May she walked right in and laid in the pool like she owned it. The guy who brought her said he couldn't get her to leave even if we wanted. We were told by lab rescue she had a hard life. She had liver issues due to probably ingesting sago palm and was on medicine for an ear infection and her liver. When I took her to Ft. Caroline Animal Clinic Dr. Athey got her on the correct 2 medicines for her ear and suggested we get a look at her liver with an ultrasound and a x-ray to see exactly what we were dealing with. They saw she had been hit by a car by how many ribs were broken and been shot in the leg. The broken ribs were healed but had caused a diaphramatic hernia so severe it pushed all her organs up into her lung and heart. Dr. A sent her to Affiliated Veterinary Specialist for emergency surgery by Dr. Erne. on 7/09/12. He cut her from her lungs down to her pee pee, repaired rupture and put all her organs back were they should be and placed a mesh piece to hold them there. It has been 3 weeks and she has had lots more visits for fluids, seepage, cultures, staple removal, abdominal swelling for a grand total...

Mace

We saw his cute puppy face online and knew that we would love him. He is full grown now at 3 years old and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect dog. He is so loving and loyal. Super playful all the time. We really enjoy teaching him new tricks. It was rough for him as a puppy since he had mange, but at almost 2 years old he finally outgrew it. I'm so happy that we were able to adopt such a wonderful furry baby through LRROF and really appreciate all you do to bring joy to so many animals and families.

mikey

hi my name is mikey, my foster parents picked me up at the shelter on september 9th , 2009. i was about 25 lbs under weight and i was on the streets for a few months, my foster parents gave me a nice place to stay with a pool and dog parks near by. over the next few months my foster mom and dad put a few pounds back on me and we became very well adapted to each other. my foster parents loved me so much that they adopted me. one year later my new mom and dad and i moved to pennsylvannia. i love it here. i like the cooler weather and i can watch the deer from my deck. daddy takes me to his hunting lodge , were i can swim in the stream and hang out with the men. some say that i am spoiled , but i say my mom and dad love me very much. thank you too lab rescue of florida for all you did for me and my furry friends.

Shelby

We adopted our Black Lab Shelby In 2007. At first she was a little shy and unsure but soon came around. Shelby had night blindness and we took her to the eye doctor who said she had Progressive Retinal Disease and would be completely blind in about a year. It took about 2 years to go completely blind but she has adjusted so well. She goes back and forth to work and home everyday. She is the sweetest most calm dog I have every encountered. Our customers love her and so do our cats. She has been everything we ever wanted in a Dog. She is my little princess and the 5 years we have spent together so far has been some of the best in our whole lives.

Oliver Twist

Oliver was rescued by Labrador Rescue in 2002. He was thought to be a "stud" dog due to his condition and was left on the side of the road in the Jacksonville, FL in a kennel in the heat of August. After being picked up by animal control, he was up for adoption with a sign next to his cage which read, "I am old, have not teeth and heartworms." Who would ever adopt such a poor soul! Lab rescue "rescued" him the day before he was euthanized and nursed him back to health. Ian and Amanda from Tampa agreed to foster him until he found a home. They were wonderful foster parents and loved him like he was their own. He came to live with me in October and was the sweetest, most docile lab you ever met. He was "Mr. January" in the Lab Rescue calendar a few years later. He brought so much love and joy to my life and then later to my husband who I met two years later. We laid Ollie to rest today. That "very old dog with no teeth and heartworms" lived with us for almost ten years after his adoption. In the end, healthy as a horse, his hips gave out on him. He went very peacefully this afternoon. Adopting a lab is the best avenue for pet ownership. Oliver would want everyone who visits this site to know that giving a second chance to someone like him is a blessing not only to the lab, but to the family who adopts him. He will be missed by so many, but he left with a graceful heart and he has his family and lab rescue to thank for the last 10 wonderful years he was able to spend sp...

Sierra

I would like to personally thank Denise and Shannon for their guidance and their professionalism in the adoption process. They were instrumental in finding just the right lab for our family. We were very particular and had specific characteristics we wanted in our Lab. Sierra is everything we wanted and more. She has an awesome personality and a great addition to the Giles family. Thanks for the help Denise and Shannon and especially for finding Sierra for us.

Moose

My son Christopher and I adopted Moose, about 9 months ago and we are all doing great. I purchased a house in February with a huge backyard and we spend a lot of time out there, playing fetch, playing in the hose and what has now become the Moose pool. (it was just a little kiddie pool, but it gets hot so we fill it up and my son and him both sit in it to cool off) We all enjoy soaking up the sunshine. He is turning into a great dog. No accidents in the house, ever! He sits, lays, shakes, speaks and we are working on roll-over. He is crate trained and behaves very well, he loves looking for food on the counter and in trash and we are working on breaking that habit. He was a jumper, but has gotten a lot better. All he wants is for every single person who comes thru the door to rub his beally. He thinks everyone is coming to see him 🙂 We adore and love him and I know he feels the same way.

Archie

Our house seemed like it was missing something....but what? My husband and I had gone out for dinner on New Year's Eve and I asked him "What do you want out of the New Year?". I expected him to say a new job, or an exotic vacation, but instead he said, simply, "A dog". That was when we got in touch with Lab Rescue. The application process seemed complicated at first, but when we understood that it was so thorough to make sure the dog we chose had a forever home, then we understood. After our application was processed the nice volunteer came to our house for our interview. We were nervous, but we passed with flying colors. Sheryl, the volunteer, began going over the available dogs with us. But my husband already had a dog in mind. Archie, an 8 year old that was on the website. I wasn't sure I wanted an 8 year old, I thought I wanted a younger dog. But Sheryl made arrangements for us to go visit Archie at this foster moms, and that was it, he laid his big head in my lap and it was game over, it was love at first sight. Archie settled right in with us as soon as we brought him home. He is sweet and kind and loving and funny and lazy. He loves to lay around the house and watch SyFy channel. He also loves to go for rides in the car, as a matter of fact if we let him out in our front yard he will go sit by the truck until we give in and take him for a ride. He is an absolute joy and I can't imagine how we lived for so long without him. He went on vacation with us ...

Pluto

My name is Pluto, previously named Jarvis (the animal shelter picked this silly name out of a baby book...I did not like it so I ignored it!) I know how old I am but I am not able to tell my new family; but the vet thinks I am about 1.5 to 2 years old. Wandering the streets of Chilton County, Alabama was scary and animal control capturing me was even scarier! I was forced to sit in a cage for 1 week and was coming up on death row before the wonderful people at Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida heard of my imprisonment and came to rescue me! The airplane ride to Tampa, Florida was cool! I think I am the only pooch that has ever been on an airplane!!! I was scared at first, because here I was in a huge unfamiliar city not exactly knowing where I was going next. Cheryl, they call her the "district coordinator of Lab Rescue"...I think that means she is the "mom" to all of us who need a home, gave me a place to stay before I met my foster parents. When I arrived at my foster parent's apartment, I found a HUGE and really comfy bed waiting for me!!!!! Wow, my own bed! My own food bowl, clean water! I thought to myself...this is doggy nirvana! I immediately crawled into my bed and had to try it out. Soon after, my mom took me shopping for toys and treats in a store called "PetSmart"...it was the coolest place ever! It's like "Toys R' Pets"! Neat! I was allowed to hop into the bin of toys and pick out my favorite toy, which is a red dragon that makes a squeaky sound that I go...

Lucy

Back in 2002 my family adopted the most wonderful dog, Lucy a black lab. When we got her it was like it was meant to be, she walked into our house like she knew she was supposed to be there. With us having 2 other family pets she got along great with both of them. But after almost 11 years we had to put her down 4/26/2012. We want to Thank the LRROF for such wonderful dogs that you have, without you we wouldn't have met and fell in love with such a great dog. She will be deeply missed and will remain in our hearts forever. I think this is definitely a success story because she changed our lives and and we changed hers by giving her a family and wonderful home and life and lots of love over a lifetime. Sweetie

We went to Palm Beach to meet Sweetie and found her to be a very happy girl! My daughter, who was only three at the time was a little bit afraid of her until Sweetie licked her lollipop! They shared it after that! She has been an absolute love! She is now 11 years old and we love her to pieces!! We don't even remember what life was like before we had her. She loves everyone and just wants to be loved! She sleeps on the bottom of my daughter's bed every night. When she looks at you with her big brown eyes it is hard not to spoil her! Thank you so much for such a wonderful dog for our family!

Norman

Six months after the death of our wonderful black lab, we opened our hearts to another lab. We went to Pat and Lewis's home, and we were chosen by Norman. He would not leave our sides, and in reality, he chose us. We could not ask for a more dedicated and wonderful team of volunteers, who make it their lifes mission to find forever homes for their orphaned dogs.

Hope

We met Hope at the adoption Expo in Tampa in the Fall of 2007. We immediately fell in love with this beautiful white furry lab with a gentle soul. Her foster mother, Cheryl, told us she was a "special girl". That she was. Everyone who met her fell in love with her. But Hope soon had a medical issue....a third degree AV blockage. The vet said she needed a pacemaker. Dr. Spier at FVS fixed her up, and soon she was on her way to recovery. Due to her gentle nature, Hope made a fine therapy dog and received her certification from Project Pup. She became a therapy dog at Morton Plant Mease in Clearwater and she was a popular visitor at the Morgan Heart Hospital where patients related to her pacemaker issues. Patients could touch her pacemaker battery and feel it working. She lived for another four years and worked her magic everywhere she went. She loved squirrels, birds, and the smell of fish on her dock. She passed away a few weeks ago after a long illness. We will again look to Lab Rescue for another pup when we are ready. Thank you for the work you do and for saving such wonderful animals who have so much to give.

Jakey

Thanks to this wonderful organization, we were able to adopt Jakey, a big, beautiful, chocolate lab! His foster mom, Kelly, called him Mush Bear because he loves to cuddle, well, that name stuck! Our 6 year old daughter calls him Mushy Puddin, and he LOVES it! We adopted Jake not long after we had to put our yellow lab to sleep. Our black lab, Jada (adopted from LRRoF in 2004), needed a new companion and she and Jake have become great friends! We were so lucky to find Jake, and he is an awesome addition to our family!

Binks

Adopting Mr. Binks is the best thing I have ever done in my life. He is the most loving boy in the world and brings joy to my life like I could have never imagined. I never planned on getting a dog, especially while in college, but when I saw Binks's light brown eyes outside of a PETCO, I knew I had to be his mom. I talked to the wonderful ladies at the Lab Rescue adoption table and found out that someone on the waiting list had already been called to come adopt Binks. I was told there was a chance Binks could still be mine if the people on the waiting list showed up and did not want him. So I waited all day, and in the end, I got the pleasure of taking Binks home. Now he lives in Tallahassee with me, and his daddy and is an avid FSU fan and frisbee enthusiast (he is well known at the local dog parks for his talents). While his mommy and daddy are in class, Binks enjoys hanging out in his room (our dining room that we removed the furniture from, filled with everything a puppy could need, and put up a baby gate) thinking about all his girlfriends at the dog park, and when his mom and dad are coming home. When we get home, there is Binks with a frisbee in his mouth ready to go play. At night, he is the biggest snuggle butt in the world. He loves cuddling with his mommy and daddy more than anything. He has even been know to push is daddy off the bed a time or few. Next year, he will the man of the house, here to protect, and keep me company while his daddy goes off the fight the...

Vader

We met the sweetest dog in the word while he was being fostered by our neighbors. The timing could not have been better as we had just gone to the shelter the day before!! We fell in love with the sweet, kind, loyal demeanor of "Ike" and we quickly adopted him into our family in March of 2011. He is now known as "Vader" and is a very important member of the family! He is playful and patient as we throw the ball to him, or while he watches his best friend (our 7 year old son) shoot hoops in the driveway. He snuggles on the floor with his "dad" and runs at least 5 miles 4 times a week with his "mom". We could not imagine a better dog, and we are greateful that he entered our lives and we could give him a forever home! Thank you for rescuing him and letting us be his family!

Buddy

We changed Adam's name to Buddy because he clearly is everyone's best buddy. He is the most wonderful dog ever! He loves to swim in our pool and go on long walks by the lake. We quote the movie UP all the time to him "I just met you, and I love you." Thank you Lab Rescue for making our family complete!

Midnight

We adopted Midnight 5 years ago this past December. He truly is the perfect dog. His description was "unflappable" and he truly is. He's great with all the kids that come to our house and wouldn't hurt a fly. We have loved a lot of dogs, but Midnight is the Big Guy. We adopted Rylee for Midnight from Lab Rescue to keep him company during the day. He is the sweetest boy!

Sally & Charlie

I am a retired MSgt, USAF veteran. Because of my service I have disabilities. Instead of giving into the disabilities my fur babies (adopted labradors through you) keep me going. We enjoy walks and playing fetch. I have a queen size bed and we all sleep together, what a comfort. The dogs give me a reason to live and I am giving them a good life with lots of love. Sincerely, Deborah Sue

Chucky

I adopted Chucky a 9 year old yellow lab last December. Chucky was found by Lee County Animal Services and the great people there called Lab Rescue instead of doing the unthinkable. The great folks at Lab Rescue found Chuck a foster home, even though senior dogs are harder to place. I had been checking Lab Rescue website for sometime with no plans to really adopt at that time. That is until I came across Chucky. Chucky has now been in my home for 1 year and what a great addition he has been. He is the most lovable, well behaved dog I have ever come across. Chuck just wants to lay around the house, eat bones and go for daily walks. He is so laid back and sweet, I can't understand why someone left him in a field. I can't imagine my Chucky being homeless and he will never have to worry about that again. I want to thank everyone at lab rescue for going above and beyond for my dog who I could not imagine live without.

Lady

We adopted our lab, Lady Godiva, in April of 2011 after my husband and I were married in March. My husband, Danny, has always been a dog lover and had many dogs growing up. After returning froma tour in Kuwait (his second tour after 9/11) his one wish was to adopt a dog that could complete our family. During the time my husband was away I was asked to watch a friend's dog, which was a loving black lab, while they were out of the country. I fell in love with the breed so I knew when it was time to adopt a dog I wanted a lab. My husband called me at work one day and told me he had found our dog and could I come home so we could go get her. I did indeed take off work for the rest of the day, however, I was more indulging him then actually thinking we were about to adopt a dog. I should have know better because as soon as we met Godiva (her name then) it was love. We immediately felt a connection as we walked with her, brushed her and cuddled with her on the couch. Although the first few weeks were tough because we didn't know her history and she seemed to be very scared of everything within two months she was fully adjusted and coming out of her shell more and more everyday. We can't imagine life without her now!

Sampson

We adopted "Sampson" from you back in April this year. Just to let you know how well he is doing!!! I have enclosed pictures so you can remember who he is. He was one of the litter of pups from Mississippi that were to be "Autistic" helpers He did not go down well with our older grieving dog that we got him for!!! We tried to adopt his sister from you but she was already being adopted, so we went to another rescue & got a year old Dalmation mix for him to play with. OMG!!!! Between them, they have almost eaten us out of house & home....Literally....furniture, walls, clothing...you name it they ate it !!! They should use these 2 as testers for KONG toys..........!!! I USED to hang all my towels & bedding outside on a clothesline to dry!!! that became a tug of war game....WITH MY LAUNDRY!!!! & we have holes in our yard which probably come out at China!!! ..Anyway, they have become partial outdoor dogs!!!......about 4 hours a day...... We have our garage leading off our kitchen at the back of our house so when they are "outside" they are in the garage with a doggie door into the "Dog Yard" ........With all their toys, BALLS & roadkill!!! I HATE outdoor dogs. Dont see the point in an "outdoor" pet?? but I think these 2 are actually happier this way....... Glad to say he didn't take long to housetrain.......didnt do too well in his crate tho.........Neither of them did, I think cos they always wanted to be together?? Sampson, the lab LOVES the pool......about as much as...

Bella

After losing my 7 year old Chocolate Lab Lexi I was devistated. I looked to Lab Rescue to see if there was any dog that could help fill the void. After a month and several meet and greets with other dogs I can across the picture of Bella. A beautiful white Lab. I called and she was adopted...bummed again. The next day i get a called, the people who adopted her were bringing her back after a month. All i have to say is their loss was out GAIN. We spoke to her foster dad that night and without hesitation we knew she was ment for us. The poor girl had been in and out of three homes and was only 18 months old. My now husband, went and picked her up the next day and that was it. Bella has now been with us for 11 months. After 11 months and one more addition to our family ( a golden retreiver puppy named Daisy) she is the most loving and sweet dog we have meet. She is a total bed hog and loves to snuggle. "Our girls" are our pride and joy and they are the furry kids we have always wanted. We are so grateful to Lab rescue for finding Bella at the pound and saving her for us. Our family would not be complete without her. Bella loves to send her Foster dad Larry some pictures and gifts to make sure he knows how good she is doing and how happy she is in her forever home. Thank you you so much for our little girl! Tess, Adrian, Bella & Daisy

Teak

Teak came to me on August 8th 2011 by way of Lab Rescue. The first time I saw him I knew he belonged with me. He lives with two other labs here, his brother Jessie and Sister Sammy; they are inseparable 24 hours a day. Teak and his pals run around the ranch outside chasing squirrels all day, it is what they love to do. They are on constant patrol looking up at the trees. Teak is the Gentleman in the family, I don’t think he is capable do anything wrong. I want to thank Laura & Trish form bringing Teak into my life; he fits right in and can't imagine life without him.

Calypso

After losing my previous 2 Labs within a year of each other, and then my 16 year-old cat, my home felt so empty. My husband was away at training and we had decided to wait until he got back to adopt a new baby. As a volunteer, I had the opportunity to see all the new puppies that came into Rescue during the "Great Puppy Summer of 2010". Calypso (formerly known as Emma), and her sister Gabriella had been rescued from a shelter in Tampa. They had lost their brother to parvo, and were battling a case of it themselves. After speaking with the District Coordinator as to their condition, she informed me they had recovered and were ready to go. Being totally in love with both of them, I couldn't choose. So I sent the girls pictures to my husband who made the decision to go with Calypso. A week or so later, we met the transport volunteer in the parking lot of a restaurant. When she opened up the back of her car, I saw this beautiful little black ball of fur. All the emotion that had been building up in me since I had lost my "girls" came out in a rush of tears. As she gingerly took biscuits from me, I knew we had chosen the perfect baby. My husband took her out of her crate and she immediately curled up on his shoulder as though she knew this was her new hero. We may have helped saved her life, but she'll never know how much she saved mine that day.

Sugar

Our hearts were broken. We lost our beloved lab Indiana (Indy) after 13 –years to a ruptured spleen. We did everything in our power to save her, but in the end it was not meant to be. We waited 6 long months, before we decided we could no longer take the pain and quiet of a dog-free house. We heard about LRROF and visited the website. We said we’d wait a little longer to adopt, but decided to fill out the paperwork and schedule the home visit. We wanted to be prepared when the right dog came along. We checked the site every couple of days and lo and behold along came Sugar, a barely 1-year old puppy who looked as sweet as her name and reminded us a little of our Indy. Sugar had been found in the Panhandle just a few days before. We called her foster mom Pat to schedule a visit and were told there was couple ahead of us, but that they had not shown up for their appointed time and we could come meet Sugar the very next day. We drove to Pat’s house with the excitement of 2 children on Christmas Eve. When we rang the bell we heard lots of dogs barking. Pat brought Sugar out to meet us. She was very eager to get to us for pets and so happy to say hello that she wiggled her entire body. We looked at each other and just knew that we had found the one puppy that could fill the holes in our hearts. We took Sugar home that very same night and love her more and more every day. She is such a bright spot in our lives. Our little girl is very happy and so s...

Klondike

God Bless the wonderful people who have made it their mission to save these dogs. I adopted Klondike through Pat White after loosing my Lab of 15 years Rusty. I promised Rusty that I would care for the older labs that were left behind. I lasted 6 weeks without a companion. I saw Klondike on the sight and contacted Pat to set up an appointment. It was love at first site. I needed a Klondike and I could tell instantly that Klondike needed me. It has been a perfect match. He is just a wonderful dog. Although you learn things about your new friend that can be surprizing. It appears that he never learned to play since to this day he does not care for toys of which we have many. I have tried to amend this but he chooses to be himself and I am good with that. There are so many things that an experienced dog brings to a relationship. I encourage anyone who is considering an adoption to PLEASE give the experienced dogs an opportunity to bring happiness to your homes. You will be forever grateful.
