Calypso

After losing my previous 2 Labs within a year of each other, and then my 16 year-old cat, my home felt so empty. My husband was away at training and we had decided to wait until he got back to adopt a new baby. As a volunteer, I had the opportunity to see all the new puppies that came into Rescue during the "Great Puppy Summer of 2010". Calypso (formerly known as Emma), and her sister Gabriella had been rescued from a shelter in Tampa. They had lost their brother to parvo, and were battling a case of it themselves. After speaking with the District Coordinator as to their condition, she informed me they had recovered and were ready to go. Being totally in love with both of them, I couldn't choose. So I sent the girls pictures to my husband who made the decision to go with Calypso. A week or so later, we met the transport volunteer in the parking lot of a restaurant. When she opened up the back of her car, I saw this beautiful little black ball of fur. All the emotion that had been building up in me since I had lost my "girls" came out in a rush of tears. As she gingerly took biscuits from me, I knew we had chosen the perfect baby. My husband took her out of her crate and she immediately curled up on his shoulder as though she knew this was her new hero. We may have helped saved her life, but she'll never know how much she saved mine that day.
