On this page you’ll find stories of successful matches between rescued LRROF dogs and their families.  These stories are written by the families themselves.  We hope you enjoy reading them as much as much as we do! Please note that we post the stories as volunteer time permits.

GAVIN

In 2011, we adopted two labs from you that were in the same foster home, Jack & Callie Mae. Unfortunately, we lost Jack last November due to a brain tumor. Callie Mae was so despondent and we missed Jack so much, we wanted a good partner for Callie Mae. We brought Gavin home on a trial basis because Callie does not get along with some other dogs. They bonded immediately and Callie is a different dog today. She is at least 10 and Gavin is about 6 now. Both are doing great and they are really close. We still miss Jack as he was a wonderful dog, especially for me to take walking, but Gavin is also a good walker. In many ways, Gavin is much like Jack was. Gavin was so mistreated in the past, underweight and had (or may still have heart worm) but has gained weight to 60 pounds, and is so energetic now. We have agreed per LRROF to wait until December to test him again for the heartworm, but he has tested positive twice by our vet this past year. Our vet followed up with more treatment after we got him, but we have to wait and see this next test. He was still receiving his treatment when we took him home and we took him to NPR for his last treatment. They both sleep on the beds at night and have day beds close to us in the family room. We have a fenced yard, so they are out often.
