On this page you’ll find stories of successful matches between rescued LRROF dogs and their families.  These stories are written by the families themselves.  We hope you enjoy reading them as much as much as we do! Please note that we post the stories as volunteer time permits.

Honey

After our dog, Roxy, passed away in October we have been looking for a new dog to join our family. We knew that Honey was the one the instant we saw her on the website. Our first meeting with her we all fell in love with her and she has turned out to be the most incredible, lovable, intelligent, sweet dog . Pat at LRROF was so incredible throughout the adoption process. We haven’t even had her two weeks yet and we are completely in love with her and she with us. People tell us that we have such great luck with dogs and that our dogs hit the jackpot when they come to our home but honestly we hit the jackpot with Honey. She is an 8-9 month old Lab mix and she has brought such life into our home, to all of us and especially to our old dog Buddy.

Hector

Hector came to LRRoF as an abuse case that ended up in the court system. Consequently he spent a considerable time in a shelter that had little money. He had been dragged behind his owner's vehicle and had multiple skin injuries and he was heavy heartworm positive. I am a volunteer with LRRof and had recently lost two of my adopted chocolate boys within 6 months of each other when I saw Hector on the web site. I went to visit him a couple of times at his foster's home and she very generously agreed to let me adopt him. Hector is a very laid back dog and loves the couch, however he goes to class once a week where he does some agility and obedience, he earned is CGC (Canine Good Citizen) from AKC.

Hank

Our family has had Labs for over 20 years. When my old fella, Luke, passed at 15 1/2 years, we decided that Angus, our 4 year old, was missing him. We decided that it would be a wonderful choice to bring an adult dog into our home and, even better, to provide a loving home for a rescued dog who needed one. We went onto the LRROF site and saw Luke. We took Angus to meet him after discussing our family with Lisa, the wonderful foster who had him. They hit it off immediately and began running around together. We renamed him Hank because for us there was only one Luke. He's been a part of our family for five months now and fits right in. He chases lizards with one of our cats and swims with Angus. He's a sweet boy and very silly. We love him and he returns it as only a Lab can.

Henry J

January 25, 2015 we adopted a senior Lab, our Henry J. We picked him up from his foster home, getting him in the car he settled in before we even pulled away. He laid in the back looking out the windows taking in the fresh air. I'm always amazed at how animals go with the flow trusting us in their journey. When we got home Henry J met his 2 new Corgi pals and the CATS. Honestly it was as though he'd lived with us his whole life, making himself right at home. Henry J beamed when he saw the toy box, rummaging through it until he found a tennis ball, of course. He enjoyed going for leisurely walks, with the Corgis adjusting their pace to meet his. The afternoons he would bask in the warmth of the sun while gentle breezes cooled his chocolate coat. But mealtime was his favorite time of day, he could hardly contain his excitement! Even if in a deep sleep his internal time clock would wake him to eat. Dancing and prancing until his yummy dish of food was placed before him, and don't think you can forget the treats, three exactly three. As time passed the walks were too much, the treasure hunts in the toy box ended and the summer heat too much. Henry J's bad days had sadly outnumbered his good days, sadly it was time. The morning of he had tender, juicy steak for breakfast, which he gobbled down. I had spread a blue blanket on his bed, after he'd eaten and gone out one last time he came in and laid down upon it. We had arranged for Lap of Love to come to our home and send Henry ...

Hank

We adopted Hank on our Anniversary in 2006. We have three boys that adore him every day. He goes to work with my Husband some days and everybody loves him. When we got him he was broken. He endured being on the run and heat rashes. The adjustment period was quick. He has become our 4th child. He loves to swim and boat. He is loved by so many people outside of our family. He has been a true blessing. Thank you Florida Labrador Rescue.

Holly

When Jim and I went to see Holly at Pat's house, we knew instantly that she was ours. She looked so petite next to her foster brothers but she played just as hard. She is sweet and full of energy. Holly had heartworm when we adopted her. We are happy to say that she is heartworm free and happy and healthy. We are so thrilled we could give Holly her forever home. She brings so much happiness and love into our home - it would not be the same without her!

Honeygirl

It is with much sorrow I announce the passing of my beloved friend and companion Honeygirl this week after a short illness. In May 2005 I was approved to adopt a dog and looked at half dozen dogs within a 1 hour radius of Orlando. The foster families were wonderful people with big hearts. I found Honeygirl and rescued her because her foster family had small kids and when they jumped on her she never barked or growled she just got up and moved away. The first year was tough on both of us, she had been bounced around and was not overly trusting. Honeygirl would go off into lengthy barking fits. While she was easy to train there was an anger to her that first year. It took patience but she came to know I had nothing but unconditional love for her and in returned she gave me the same love back. Honeygirl used to rub her head and face into my chest and stomach to show me how much she loved me. I taught her how to walk correctly on a leash, not to mooch people food, run out the door without permission and our favorite tug of war games with almost anything. The first time I loaded up a Kong Toy it took her several hours to get everything out. The second time she took the toy and threw down on the kitchen tile and everything popped out. From that point on she got peanut butter in her Kong. The most impressive thing about Honeygirl was how many of my old neighbors in Lake Mary Fl asked me to help them teach their dogs to be like her - gentle, loving, and obedient and also ter...

Hank

After losing our Lab a few years ago and then our shephard due to cancer last July we knew we wanted to adopt another dog, this time from the Lab Rescue. We had to wait until after the summer because I was in NJ until September helping my daughter with her new twins and my husband and I had travel plans in October. We checked the lab rescue website everyday to start our seach for our new family member. Just before leaving for another visit to NJ and then a business trip in D.C. we saw Hank on the Lab website. My husband and I both liked him immediately. We checked everyday to see if he was still available. We decided to go to a Vegan Food festival in downtown Tampa one Saturday, just before leaving for NJ because we saw that the Lab Rescue was going to be there with some dogs. We thought we could start looking at the different dogs that were there that day. As fate would have it when we spotted the Lab Rescue booth there was Hank! We loved him immediately and he seemed to love us and that was the end of our search! Love at first sight! We were told his story, he was abondoned, sick, skinny and had heart worms when he was found. The Lab Rescue brought him back to a healthy beautiful dog! We started the paperwork and he was brought to our house to make sure he was ok with our cat. He was and Hank was ours. Hank didn't have a foster home and was boarded at a donated kennel at Uncle G's in Dover but he did have a handler, Mark, and we were so grateful that they could keep Hank a ...

Hope

We met Hope at the adoption Expo in Tampa in the Fall of 2007. We immediately fell in love with this beautiful white furry lab with a gentle soul. Her foster mother, Cheryl, told us she was a "special girl". That she was. Everyone who met her fell in love with her. But Hope soon had a medical issue....a third degree AV blockage. The vet said she needed a pacemaker. Dr. Spier at FVS fixed her up, and soon she was on her way to recovery. Due to her gentle nature, Hope made a fine therapy dog and received her certification from Project Pup. She became a therapy dog at Morton Plant Mease in Clearwater and she was a popular visitor at the Morgan Heart Hospital where patients related to her pacemaker issues. Patients could touch her pacemaker battery and feel it working. She lived for another four years and worked her magic everywhere she went. She loved squirrels, birds, and the smell of fish on her dock. She passed away a few weeks ago after a long illness. We will again look to Lab Rescue for another pup when we are ready. Thank you for the work you do and for saving such wonderful animals who have so much to give.
