Cocoa

I am a foster for LRROF and I was contacted about a 9 year old chocolate lab named Cocoa whose owner had passed away. I immediately said yes that I would foster her and within about 5 minutes of meeting this dog I knew she was going to be adopted BY ME! She is the sweetest dog & I love her & she will be with me until she takes her last breath.

Chica

I had filled out an adoption application and completed a home visit when I happened upon a LRRoF event at a local mall and stopped to talk in October 2012. I met Chica and her wonderful foster parents that day, and she immediately attached herself to me. I wasn't expecting the process to happen so quickly, but we bonded, and I brought her home the next day. She has been the most wonderful, loving, energetic, destructive, and intelligent companion. She is the definition of a Velcro dog, and has travelled all over with me for many years. She loves everyone she meets, playing fetch, trying to sneak onto the furniture, and snuggling. I am so lucky to live in such a dog friendly community, as I regularly get to include her in my trips out around town. Chica immediately attached to my now husband, and she loves spending her days with him now that he works from home.

Connor

We adopted Connor in July 2013 when he was around 8 or 9 years old. After playing with him for 5 minutes at his foster parent Jorge's house, we knew he would fit right in with our older doggie, Sara, and our 3 cats. Connor had some issues and had obviously had a hard life previous to being rescued from MDAS by LRROF. All he needed was some love and TLC to blossom into a beautiful big black shiny goofball. He was friendly to everybody, gentle with children and other animals and left a lasting impression to all that met him. His goal in life was to be with his Mom and Dad. We lost Connor to complications to cancer at the beginning of June this year. It was very, very quick and unexpected and we miss him terribly. Even though we only had him a relatively short time, we were honored to have him stay with us for the last years of his life and thankful for the love and fun he brought us. We love you Connor. Adopting one of the wonderful labs from Lab Rescue saves the life of a needy and deserving soul and pays you back in so many ways. Don't buy, ADOPT.

Chuck & Zeus

I adopted Chuck from Lab Rescue about 2 years ago and recently got Zeus from there as well. They turned out to be 2 of the best dogs anyone could ask for. They are gorgeous and sweet as pie. I couldn't imagine life without them.

Charlie

We adopted Charlie shortly after our chocolate lab passed away. Our black Lab Molly was missing her and so we decided to get another dog. I can't say enough about Charlie. He and Molly bonded imediatly. He had seperation anxiety when we got him. But we worked with him and he become the best dog ever. He was gentle, loving, funny, playful. He filled our hearts with much love and joy! Charlie passed away this January. He had cancer. Way to early he was only 7yrs old. It has been 10 months since he passed and it's still very painful to talk about him. I can't thank Pat enough for fostering him and allowing him to come into our lives. We have since rescued another dog. She is a chocolate lab/pit. She is helping to fill the void in our heart. But we miss our "Bubbie" (his nickname) everyday. Thanks again LRROF .

Charlie

After we lost our Lab of 17 years and our Lab Dalmatian mix of 14 years we said we would not get another dog again and just live life. After 2 years we found out that life had to include a Lab. We knew we did not want a puppy, nothing against puppies, but at 62 I wanted a dog that was my speed. I did a lot of research and found Florida Lab Rescue on the internet and their site just drew me to them. Their caring stories, the pictures of the rescues and their particular stories. I found a particular dog wearing white leggings. His name was Charlie. Not only did I fall in love with his picture but I fell in love with his name. He looked like a Charlie and he looked like he just wanted someone to love him. Well, he found the right family. We cannot thank Laura and Trish enough for bringing the 3 of us together. The days since Charlie has come into our lives can only be described as joyous! I asked for a shadow and that is what I got. Where I go Charlie goes except at night, he likes to make sure Mama is safe and sleeps on her side until morning when it is time to get up he comes and gives me a big wake up kiss. One thing I have not mentioned, Charlie is a senior. Just like me. People tend to not want an older dog. Older dogs need a home and love also. You cannot believe how much love Charlie has brought into our home. He makes our days so enjoyable. He is so smart. We have invented indoor soccer with his tennis ball. He has a blast playing. He already has one squirrel that loves...

Cocoa Cee Cee

Cyndi Brozovich- Cocoa Cee Cee was found in NC in April right around my birthday running the streets. She had birthed many litters of puppies. Lab Rescue of Florida went right up to get her. All I wanted for my birthday was a chocolate female lab from rescue. I stay home all day due to my illness and needed a companion. When Cocoa came for her home visit at the end of May she walked right in and laid in the pool like she owned it. The guy who brought her said he couldn't get her to leave even if we wanted. We were told by lab rescue she had a hard life. She had liver issues due to probably ingesting sago palm and was on medicine for an ear infection and her liver. When I took her to Ft. Caroline Animal Clinic Dr. Athey got her on the correct 2 medicines for her ear and suggested we get a look at her liver with an ultrasound and a x-ray to see exactly what we were dealing with. They saw she had been hit by a car by how many ribs were broken and been shot in the leg. The broken ribs were healed but had caused a diaphramatic hernia so severe it pushed all her organs up into her lung and heart. Dr. A sent her to Affiliated Veterinary Specialist for emergency surgery by Dr. Erne. on 7/09/12. He cut her from her lungs down to her pee pee, repaired rupture and put all her organs back were they should be and placed a mesh piece to hold them there. It has been 3 weeks and she has had lots more visits for fluids, seepage, cultures, staple removal, abdominal swelling for a grand total...

Chucky

I adopted Chucky a 9 year old yellow lab last December. Chucky was found by Lee County Animal Services and the great people there called Lab Rescue instead of doing the unthinkable. The great folks at Lab Rescue found Chuck a foster home, even though senior dogs are harder to place. I had been checking Lab Rescue website for sometime with no plans to really adopt at that time. That is until I came across Chucky. Chucky has now been in my home for 1 year and what a great addition he has been. He is the most lovable, well behaved dog I have ever come across. Chuck just wants to lay around the house, eat bones and go for daily walks. He is so laid back and sweet, I can't understand why someone left him in a field. I can't imagine my Chucky being homeless and he will never have to worry about that again. I want to thank everyone at lab rescue for going above and beyond for my dog who I could not imagine live without.

Calypso

After losing my previous 2 Labs within a year of each other, and then my 16 year-old cat, my home felt so empty. My husband was away at training and we had decided to wait until he got back to adopt a new baby. As a volunteer, I had the opportunity to see all the new puppies that came into Rescue during the "Great Puppy Summer of 2010". Calypso (formerly known as Emma), and her sister Gabriella had been rescued from a shelter in Tampa. They had lost their brother to parvo, and were battling a case of it themselves. After speaking with the District Coordinator as to their condition, she informed me they had recovered and were ready to go. Being totally in love with both of them, I couldn't choose. So I sent the girls pictures to my husband who made the decision to go with Calypso. A week or so later, we met the transport volunteer in the parking lot of a restaurant. When she opened up the back of her car, I saw this beautiful little black ball of fur. All the emotion that had been building up in me since I had lost my "girls" came out in a rush of tears. As she gingerly took biscuits from me, I knew we had chosen the perfect baby. My husband took her out of her crate and she immediately curled up on his shoulder as though she knew this was her new hero. We may have helped saved her life, but she'll never know how much she saved mine that day.
