Oliver Twist

Oliver was rescued by Labrador Rescue in 2002. He was thought to be a "stud" dog due to his condition and was left on the side of the road in the Jacksonville, FL in a kennel in the heat of August. After being picked up by animal control, he was up for adoption with a sign next to his cage which read, "I am old, have not teeth and heartworms." Who would ever adopt such a poor soul! Lab rescue "rescued" him the day before he was euthanized and nursed him back to health. Ian and Amanda from Tampa agreed to foster him until he found a home. They were wonderful foster parents and loved him like he was their own. He came to live with me in October and was the sweetest, most docile lab you ever met. He was "Mr. January" in the Lab Rescue calendar a few years later. He brought so much love and joy to my life and then later to my husband who I met two years later. We laid Ollie to rest today. That "very old dog with no teeth and heartworms" lived with us for almost ten years after his adoption. In the end, healthy as a horse, his hips gave out on him. He went very peacefully this afternoon. Adopting a lab is the best avenue for pet ownership. Oliver would want everyone who visits this site to know that giving a second chance to someone like him is a blessing not only to the lab, but to the family who adopts him. He will be missed by so many, but he left with a graceful heart and he has his family and lab rescue to thank for the last 10 wonderful years he was able to spend spoiled rotten and content. Thank you Lab Rescue.
