Sunshine

It has been 10 years since we adopted Sunshine from Lab Rescue of Florida. Sunshine was roughly one years old and at the pound. After a heartworm check, being spayed, and a few days, actually, from the first call, we interviewed and were able to bring Sunshine home. She has been the best dog we have ever had. We are about to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and her 11th birthday this month. I felt moved to share with anyone who is wondering if a lab is the right dog for you, to research all you can and be open to a lot of love. Sunshine really needed love to get over her fears from being homeless and she had a lot of love to give. Labs are very oral dogs and like to chew the first 4 years of life. You have to be able to supply them with safe chew toys and give them lots of exercise. We found crate training in the early years to be a must and also obedience school so we could communicate with her. She turned out to be so smart and really was easy to train. She still likes to run after the ball, chews on toys, and takes a few walks a day. She gets me out in the fresh air and reminds me to play! After this wonderful experience, I can't say enough about the rewards of adopting a lab. Check it out! Labs are awesome! The sound of their voice when a stranger comes to the door sounds like a very agressive dog, yet you will never worry having children around as they are very gentle. Thanks for letting me tell my story and I wish all the labs wonderful homes...as our Sunshine really has made our house a 'home!'.
