We adopted our lab, Lady Godiva, in April of 2011 after my husband and I were married in March. My husband, Danny, has always been a dog lover and had many dogs growing up. After returning froma tour in Kuwait (his second tour after 9/11) his one wish was to adopt a dog that could complete our family. During the time my husband was away I was asked to watch a friend's dog, which was a loving black lab, while they were out of the country. I fell in love with the breed so I knew when it was time to adopt a dog I wanted a lab. My husband called me at work one day and told me he had found our dog and could I come home so we could go get her. I did indeed take off work for the rest of the day, however, I was more indulging him then actually thinking we were about to adopt a dog. I should have know better because as soon as we met Godiva (her name then) it was love. We immediately felt a connection as we walked with her, brushed her and cuddled with her on the couch. Although the first few weeks were tough because we didn't know her history and she seemed to be very scared of everything within two months she was fully adjusted and coming out of her shell more and more everyday. We can't imagine life without her now!
