On this page you’ll find stories of successful matches between rescued LRROF dogs and their families.  These stories are written by the families themselves.  We hope you enjoy reading them as much as much as we do! Please note that we post the stories as volunteer time permits.

Phoebe

I have a heart for rescue animals and volunteered with and fostered dogs in the past, but never found myself in the position to adopt until recently. I was drawn to Phoebe’s (formerly Missy) description; she sounded like the perfect fit for me. In the days leading up to meeting her I was so excited and would look at her pictures over and over. Our meeting sealed the deal that she was the one for me. Since I brought her home, she has been the most loving companion and she makes me laugh every day. She had a rough start in life and came to LRROF after spending the first five years of her life in a horrific hoarding situation; before she was rescued she had never been outside, never felt the sun on her face or the grass on her paws, never knew a loving touch. Her incomparable foster mom Sherri rehabilitated her and showed her how to be a dog and I am forever grateful for her, and for LRROF, for saving my girl. I often ask Phoebe “what did I ever do to get a girl as good as you?” and I mean it - I feel endlessly lucky to have her. She inspires me everyday with zest for life and her happy spirit. I could never in a million years fully articulate what she means to me.

Precious

in 2005, a little angel, then the size of a tile, entered our lives and left a mark that will forever be with us. Precious Borriello, a beautiful, smart, confident, playful and loyal black lab. spoiled rotten, and she loved and appreciated every minute of it. Who knew this wonderful creature could bring so much love and happiness into our lives, our home and to all those she came in contact with. On march 11, 2017, my angel approached rainbow bridge. I cannot help but feel that the doctors caring for her made a mistake and I've tortured myself until I was sick. I need to focus on the many wonderful years that Precious blessed us with. She was a young 11. always playing with her toys, she made the house a home worth living and coming home to. she was so well-behaved and well-trained. she had some of the best habits. she loved home cooked meals, playing with her toys and being over-protective of mommy. although she was not a service dog, per se, she was my service dog. with me through thick and thin, always by my side. As I became a dialysis patient and struggled through home dialysis, there was my loyal angel, there at my side, every step of the way. she gave me strength; just knowing she was counting on my care, I was counting on her presence. she became my rock; My best friend and my ultimate companion over the last 11 years. We understood each other and we shared some of life's most enjoyable moments. I was blessed with the love and presence of the most ...

Palmer

When Palmer arrived just before the holidays one year, he was a little rough around the edges. He was beaten up a bit with sores and scrapes from his life as a stray. And he was set to be put down in a few hours when you all pulled him from Broward Animal Control. He was too big, too old. But he did have the most liquid brown eyes, like two shoe buttons on a beloved stuff animal. He didn't know how to engage with people or Taler, the queen bee. He didn't know how to chase a ball - in fact was hurt if a ball was thrown in his direction; he was jumpy, and he didn't like to swim and thought those who did to be suspect. And he did not like to have his picture taken. Over the months growing into years, he found joy faux dog fighting with Taler for hours and hours, romping at the dog park, so excited on the drive in that the car would swerve with his weight as he leapt from side to side, or just lying around back to back with Taler. The paperwork that came with Palmer listed his weight as 80 lbs. He looked kind of big, but Taler is around 70 so that seemed like a good fit. You might imagine the hilarity that ensued at the vet when I insisted he weighed only 80 when the scale clearly read 117. The other note on the papers was arthritis. Palmer stayed at a healthy 117 for the rest of his life. He was the most agreeable dog I've ever known. He never once fouled the house, or bit anyone or anything. He didn't chase the chickens or neighborhood cats. He barked, tail in ...

Pluto

My name is Pluto, previously named Jarvis (the animal shelter picked this silly name out of a baby book...I did not like it so I ignored it!) I know how old I am but I am not able to tell my new family; but the vet thinks I am about 1.5 to 2 years old. Wandering the streets of Chilton County, Alabama was scary and animal control capturing me was even scarier! I was forced to sit in a cage for 1 week and was coming up on death row before the wonderful people at Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida heard of my imprisonment and came to rescue me! The airplane ride to Tampa, Florida was cool! I think I am the only pooch that has ever been on an airplane!!! I was scared at first, because here I was in a huge unfamiliar city not exactly knowing where I was going next. Cheryl, they call her the "district coordinator of Lab Rescue"...I think that means she is the "mom" to all of us who need a home, gave me a place to stay before I met my foster parents. When I arrived at my foster parent's apartment, I found a HUGE and really comfy bed waiting for me!!!!! Wow, my own bed! My own food bowl, clean water! I thought to myself...this is doggy nirvana! I immediately crawled into my bed and had to try it out. Soon after, my mom took me shopping for toys and treats in a store called "PetSmart"...it was the coolest place ever! It's like "Toys R' Pets"! Neat! I was allowed to hop into the bin of toys and pick out my favorite toy, which is a red dragon that makes a squeaky sound that I go...
