Our Adoption Process
Rescue dogs may have been abandoned, taken to a shelter, abused, become strays, or surrendered by families that didn’t want them. Our goal is to bring these dogs back to health, reduce their stress and find them homes where they will be loved and never abandoned or mistreated again. To increase our chances of success, we have a multi-step process for adoption.
1. Review LRRoF Adoption Policies
Read our adoption policies before applying.
2. Complete an online application and pay a $25 application fee
If you are in agreement with the adoption policies, then complete the online adoption application and pay the application fee. The application fee is non-refundable and is applied toward your adoption fees.
3. Home Visit
A volunteer will contact you and perform a home visit where we meet your family and see where the dog will live. We request a veterinarian reference where we ask the veterinarian a few questions about the history of your current and past animals. If your application is approved, you will be assigned an adoption counselor (who may be the person that visited your home).
4. Meet Available Dogs
You will work with an adoption counselor to set up visits with adoptable dogs in the dog’s foster home. You will only be able to see dogs that are a potential match for your lifestyle and family makeup. The foster parent has the final say in who can adopt their foster dog. Some dogs that are still undergoing medical or behavioral treatment may not appear online. This is why it’s important to work with your adoption counselor who may have information about upcoming dogs.
5. Contract & Adoption Fee
If you, the dog, and the foster parent all think you are a good match, then you’ll complete an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee.
6. Take your new dog home!
After executing the contract, you can take your new family member home! It may take a few weeks for your new family member to adjust to the change.
