We have 2 young children on the Autism spectrum, and had promised them a dog when our youngest turned 3, which came in March. We were hoping to find a dog that was calm, and big enough to handle them. We did our home interview, and resigned ourselves to a long wait to find the perfect dog for our family. After less than a week, our caseworker called and said she found him! It was on the opposite coast, but he sounded great, so we were willing to drive the 4 hours. We met Charlie and his foster mom at an event, spent about 30 minutes with him, and we all fell in love. He was awesome on the 4 hour ride home, and the kids couldn't get enough of him! After getting him home, we voted on his new name, and decided on Toby. He has now been with us for about 7 months, and has been the absolute perfect dog for us. Our 6 year old daughter loves to cuddle with him wherever he lies, and our 3 year old always wants to throw him his tennis ball. We are so happy we decided to use a rescue group, and have been recommending it to people we know looking for dogs.
